Thus it abides. How can that which is unborn be? How can solidity itself come to be? Therefore, know that solidity arises from the conceptualization of existence and non-existence. The external element of earth, iron mountains and mountain kings, supremely excellent mountains, and all the realms of the world without exception. Its very existence, there is no coming and no going. To say it is an element is merely a term used by worldly people. When this great (earth) is completely burned by fire, thoroughly washed by water, and violently destroyed by wind, at that time, like burned black oil, or like freshly burned oil, there is not even the ashes of a tree stump or a trace of dust. Thus, just as it is certain that the arising of the earth element is emptiness, so too its abiding and destruction are empty by their very nature. Furthermore, what is the water element? The body's sweat, tears, urine, mucus, bile, blood, fat, milk, pus, and whatever other liquids there are. For it, tears arise from sorrow, pain, as well as from love and meeting. Some fortunate ones, it arises from the power of the Dharma. It also does not come from anywhere, and when it dries up, it does not go anywhere. To say it arises and dries up is merely a conventional designation. When thick clouds gather and streams of water continuously destroy this world, and the great earth up to the Brahma realm of the Form Realm becomes a single ocean, at that time, from where will such a mass of water come? When twelve suns dry up and destroy it with fire, where does it go? The arising, abiding, and destruction of other elements that arise in dependence on others should also be understood as unreal in this way. What is the "harmony" that depends on the four elements such as earth? Because it grows and clarifies this, it is said to be the eye sense-sphere. The "harmony" of the earth element here is not considered to be the eye sense-sphere. Similarly, the "harmony" of the water, fire, and wind elements is not considered to be the eye sense-sphere. Therefore, there is no such eye sense-sphere that can be examined. Apart from mere designation, these are devoid of function. In the appearance of each of the elements, there is no "harmony" at all. Since all phenomena are empty, what real entity is "harmony"? Therefore, the eye sense-sphere

Now. Without beginning and without end, With the nature of emptiness, Dwelling is also not an object of focus. That which is devoid of inherent existence, Neither male nor female, The prideful mind, not a prideful mind, Is negated by its very nature. Following the sutras, with this reasoning, It should also be understood regarding the ears and so on, The realization of those also ultimately, Reaches the realm of reality. The eye is not apart from the object of form, As it is said, therefore, The eye that focuses on forms themselves, Is obstructed by forms. Likewise, regarding sound and so on, The ear and so on that focus, Are obstructed by their respective objects, The reality of objects should be understood sequentially. The eye that focuses on forms, Which are similar and so on, with different distinctions, Perceives similarity as pleasant, And perceives dissimilarity as unpleasant. Neither similar nor dissimilar, Perceiving form with an attitude of equanimity, Likewise, the mind sequentially regarding phenomena, Is shown from one's own clear intellect. Thus, dividing the six into three each, From this, the mind is close to, With the mind that thoroughly examines conduct, Eighteen kinds of faulty conduct are spoken of. Thus, having understood the nature of the aggregates and so on, As being like illusions, Liberated from attachment to all, Conduct like an illusory elephant. The joy and pleasure experienced When meeting a young maiden in a dream, Upon waking from sleep, Here, there is nothing other than the kind of a child. Thus, clinging and being attached to all, With the distinctions of body, speech, and mind, The actions that arise greatly from desire, Ten kinds are manifestly accumulated. Whatever is manifestly accumulated, All of that does not abide well from the beginning, Because it does not rely on external or internal things, Therefore, there is no abiding. Furthermore, just as the consciousness that ceases at the end, Likewise, the first consciousness arises, Becoming the master of action and object, Combine them separately for those who go by day and night. Because the nature is the same, Even if the stream of mind enters greatly, In whatever place one experiences happiness and suffering, One also truly experiences the ripening result. Whatever is the last of the cessation of consciousness, To that, one desires death and transference, At the time when the first consciousness arises, Here
