Applies to the path. Even if the body is cut into pieces, these will not shake my mind. For the hope of omniscience, I begin here with extremely firm diligence. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by the Fierce One, it is also said: I will not mix with sentient beings. I will not create roots of virtue for one sentient being, and so on. If one obtains this body endowed with learning, leisure, and perfection, but does not subdue the mind attached to attainment and so on, then he is merely deceiving the world, including the gods. In the Noble Jewel Heap Sutra, it is also said: O Lightsurya, just as a person is carried away by the great ocean of water and dies of thirst, so too, O Lightsurya, some renunciants and Brahmins take up many teachings and become fully aware, but do not eliminate craving for desire, do not eliminate attachment to hatred, do not eliminate attachment to delusion; those are carried away by the great ocean of Dharma, and die of the thirst of afflictions, and will go to bad destinies. Therefore, one should not be eaten by demons, but should dwell in a solitary place. Such places are also mentioned in the Noble Jewel Cloud Sutra: In which places the field of alms-gathering is neither too far nor too near, and in which places the water and land are not turbid, clean and stainless, and the assembly is small, and in which places the trees are abundant, the flowers are abundant, the fruits are abundant, the leaves are abundant, there are no ferocious beasts, there are caves, there are medicinal valleys, there is no end, it is easy to enter, and there are no noisy places, one should dwell in such places. Dwelling in those places, whatever he has previously taken up and heard, three times during the day and three times during the night, neither too loud nor too quiet, not letting the senses run wild, not going outwards, living closely with faith and devotion, holding the words closely, holding the signs, and not being overcome by sleep, he should recite. If a monk comes to a solitary place, and a king or a minister or someone else who is not a Brahmin, a Kshatriya, a villager, or a local person comes, he should respectfully say to them: Welcome.
