All actions of wrongdoing, I vow to refrain from doing hereafter. Whatever wrongs I have committed, I will not conceal those sins. The actions of the body are threefold, the forms of speech are fourfold, and the forms of mind are threefold, all of these I confess. Deeds done by the body, actions of speech, and thoughts conceived by the mind, the ten types of actions committed, all of these I confess. Having abandoned the ten non-virtuous actions, and practiced the ten virtuous actions, may I abide in the ten grounds, may the ten powers become supreme. Whatever sinful actions of mine, cause me to obtain undesirable results, before the Buddhas, I will confess all of them. In this Jambudvipa, and in other world realms, all who perform virtuous actions, I rejoice in all of them. By body, speech, and mind, whatever merit I have accumulated, may I, by that root of virtue, attain supreme enlightenment. In the perilous ocean of existence, with the mind of a child, whatever extremely unbearable sins I have committed, before the one possessing the ten powers, I will confess all those sins individually. The peril of birth, the peril of existence, the peril of the world, and the peril of a deceitful mind, with various perils of bodily conduct, whatever sins I have accumulated, I confess. The peril of afflictions caused by childish ignorance, the peril of encountering sinful friends, the peril of existence, the peril of desire, the peril of hatred, delusion, and darkness, the peril of leisure, the peril of time, and the peril of performing merit, before the manifest presence of the Victorious One, I will confess all those sins individually. Thus it is said. In particular, the confession of the heavy and light downfalls of a Bodhisattva, is that which is spoken of in the Sutra Requested by the Noble Upali. What are the heavy downfalls, and what are the light downfalls? Generally, what is spoken of therein is: Upali, if a Bodhisattva who has entered the Great Vehicle, incurs downfalls of desire as numerous as the grains of sand in the Ganges River, and if one downfall of hatred arises, how should the vehicle of the Bodhisattva be guarded? Of these two, whichever is associated with hatred, that sin is more...

It is very important. What is the reason for this? Close attendant, hatred causes beings to be completely abandoned, while desire gathers beings. Close attendant, for those afflictions that gather beings, bodhisattvas have neither fear nor dread. Similarly, combining them, close attendant, therefore, for you, all downfalls associated with desire are said not to be downfalls. What is the intention here? It is precisely gathering beings, because it has been explained in detail before. This teaching comes from excellent intention and compassion. Therefore, immediately after that, close attendant, those bodhisattvas who are unskilled in means are afraid of desire, but not of hatred. Close attendant, those bodhisattvas who are skilled in means are afraid of downfalls associated with hatred, but not of desire. What is skillful means? It is those who use wisdom and compassion to prevent beings from being abandoned. Either way, beings will be abandoned, because wisdom alone understands the emptiness of suffering, and compassion alone, due to the influence of afflictions, compassion will soon decline. In the Sutra of Skillful Means, it also says: 'Son of good family, for example, a king of men who holds mantras and vidyas is captured, and even if he is bound by five ropes, when he wants to walk, he can cut all the bonds and walk by generating the power of mantras and vidyas. Son of good family, similarly, a bodhisattva who is skilled in means, when he enjoys the pleasure of the five desirable qualities and dwells in them, when he desires, he can also destroy all the desirable qualities by generating the power of wisdom and the mind of omniscient knowledge, and be born in the Brahma world.' Why is hatred not also expected in this way? Because the nature of hatred is faulty and separated from compassion, therefore it is impossible to be a means. Or, for the benefit of others
