, fame, sound, and verses, if any of these three completely disappear, then, which wise person would develop a joyful mind towards impermanent, unstable dharmas, unreliable things, or become arrogant, or be puffed up with pride and conceit? Therefore, a Bodhisattva should maintain a very close mindfulness and dwell on gain, respect, fame, sound, and verses. Furthermore, one should act in the world with a lowly mind, like a Candala. By constantly and uninterruptedly maintaining the thought of begging for alms, one is free from arrogance, conceit, and pride with a humble and lowly mind. Again, it is said: Son of good family, when a Bodhisattva goes forth from the household life and becomes a renunciate, it is as if he has died to his friends, ministers, relatives, and in-laws, this is destroying pride. Acknowledging that one's body is unattractive, wearing unsightly clothes, and transforming one's appearance, this is destroying pride. Shaving one's head for the sake of begging, carrying a begging bowl in one's hand, and going from village to village, this is destroying pride. Like a Candala, walking for alms with a humble and lowly mind, this is destroying pride. I am a beggar, my livelihood depends on others, this is destroying pride. Accepting despised and inferior alms, this is destroying pride. I must please the teachers, lamas, and objects of offering, this is destroying pride. For those who practice the same conduct, such as pleasing them through rituals, codes of conduct, and daily behavior, this is destroying pride. To attain the Buddha's teachings that have not yet been attained, this is destroying pride. Among beings who are angry and have harmful intentions, to increase patience, this is destroying pride. Seventh fascicle. Also, in the Sutra Requested by Noble Manjushri Ocean of Wisdom: His body is completely pure, the body is well adorned with marks, hands and feet

Gentle and tender, a body that matches the cause of merit, extremely distinguished, with complete faculties, and all limbs fully complete, Although the form is full, it is without arrogance, and does not possess the appearance of being tall. Therefore, in order to uphold the Dharma, even to beings who are so inferior and whose forms are incomplete, one should pay homage and pay utmost homage. Furthermore, as it is said in the same text, the Blessed One said: For example, when the great ocean exists, it tends towards the lower side. In order to tend towards the lower side, all rivers, springs, and streams flow into it effortlessly. Blessed One, similarly, a Bodhisattva without arrogance, who respects the Lama and the place of offering, even in a small gathering, the doors of the profound Dharma will be heard by the ear faculty and will also abide in the memory. Blessed One, therefore, if a Bodhisattva is filled with arrogance and becomes stiff, and does not respect the Lama and the place of offering, does not pay homage, and does not pay utmost homage, Blessed One, know that this Bodhisattva is caught by the iron hook of arrogance. In the chapter of the Noble One Who Has Transcended the World, it is also said: O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are the deeds of arrogance of the Bodhisattvas. What are the ten? That is, not respecting the Lama, the place of offering, the teacher, parents, renunciates, Brahmins, those who have attained the path, and those who have entered the path, is a deed of arrogance. Not respecting those who preach the Dharma, those who have understood the special Dharma, those who expound the vast Dharma, those who have entered the Great Vehicle, those who know the way of arising, and those who are very familiar with the Dharani and Sutras, being arrogant and haughty, not generating respect for the Dharma and the preachers of the Dharma, and not doing service and attendance, is a deed of arrogance. When listening to the Dharma and engaging in correct conversation, even if a great force of Dharma arises, thinking that perhaps someone will develop faith because of this, and not bestowing words of praise to the preacher of the Dharma, is a deed of arrogance. After generating manifest arrogance
