When a Bodhisattva advises and subsequently instructs a Bodhisattva, he should advise with the perception of a teacher. The Bodhisattva who is to be subsequently instructed should not generate a mind of contempt towards the Bodhisattva. Son of the gods, just as a Bodhisattva relies on another Bodhisattva and severs the root of virtue of the Bodhisattva, such a thing does not exist anywhere. If contempt is forbidden even for sentient beings who have not generated the mind of enlightenment but possess the potential for enlightenment, then what need is there to mention those who have generated the mind of enlightenment? From the Sutra of the Samadhi of Heroic Progress: Endowed with Steadfast Intelligence. What is the prophecy for those who have not generated the mind of enlightenment? Endowed with Steadfast Intelligence, for this, some individuals in the cycle of the five destinies are born either in the hell realms, or in the realm of animals, or in the realm of Yama, or in the realm of gods, or in the realm of humans. That individual is also one who is sharp-witted and devoted to the vast. Thereupon, the Tathagata fully knows that this man, this person, will awaken to perfect complete enlightenment after this many eons, this many hundreds of eons, this many thousands of eons, this many hundreds of thousands of eons, this many billions of hundreds of thousands of eons. Similarly, apply it. Endowed with Steadfast Intelligence, this is the prophecy for those who have not generated the mind of enlightenment. Then, the Venerable Mahakashyapa said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, from now on, we will generate the perception of a teacher for all sentient beings. Why is that? Because we do not possess the ability to know which sentient beings possess the faculties that are fully ripened for enlightenment and which do not. Bhagavan, because we do not possess the ability to know, if we generate the perception of ripeness for such sentient beings, then they will reproach us. The Bhagavan said: Kashyapa, well done, well done! This speech is well spoken! Kashyapa, having seen this meaning of benefit, monks, I or one similar to me may take the warmth of a person, but a person should not take the warmth of a person. Monks, a person with a person

Know that if you keep close, you will be blamed. I have taught you the Dharma in this way. The Bodhisattva or Hearer taught by Light Protector should generate the understanding that all sentient beings are pleasing individuals of the Bodhisattva Vehicle. Thus, as it is said, one should protect oneself there. One should be extremely careful to avoid despising those who have the signs of definitely attaining enlightenment. As it is said in the Lotus Sutra: 'The stupa of the Victorious One, built with joy from earth and bricks, therefore, even from piles of earth, made in desolate monasteries, made by children in play, whatever stupa is made for the Victorious One, piled up from sand, those too will attain enlightenment.' And so on, 'Whatever images are drawn on the walls, the body with the complete hundred marks of merit, whether drawn by oneself or caused to be drawn, all those will attain enlightenment.' Whether an old man or a young man, anyone who, while learning, playing, or smearing, draws images on the wall with fingernails or twigs, all those will attain enlightenment.' Thus it is inferred. Similarly, for the sake of offering to the Sugatas, whoever causes iron bells to be struck, or strikes the water, or strikes with ashes, and pleasing and melodious songs, and offerings made to the relics in various ways, all those will become Buddhas of the world. For the relics of the Sugatas, even if it is small, or the sound of a single bell is struck, or an offering is made with a single flower, or on the image of the Sugata and the drawings on the wall, even if offering with a distracted mind, those will gradually see countless Buddhas. To the stupa, whoever joins their palms, whether fully joined or with one palm, or even bows their head for a moment, likewise, bowing once, to those places where relics are, with a distracted mind, prostrating and saying 'Homage to the Buddha' several times, all those will attain enlightenment.
