This generation of the mind of perfect and complete enlightenment is the third cause. As it is said, "Having seen the complete perfection of all the supreme qualities of the Tathagata, generating joy, and generating the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, this is the fourth cause." Thus it is said. The mind of enlightenment is of two types: the mind of aspiration for enlightenment and the mind of embarking on enlightenment. As it is said in the Sutra of the Arrayed Tree, "Son of good family, those sentient beings who aspire to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment are rare in the realm of sentient beings. Even more rare are those sentient beings who embark on unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment." Thus it is said. Among these, the mind of aspiration for enlightenment is born from the aspiration of thinking, "I shall become a Buddha." As it is said in the Noble Heroic Progress Sutra, "Even generating the mind of enlightenment with a deceitful mind is said to be a cause for Buddhahood, what need is there to mention generating the mind after performing various virtuous deeds?" Thus it is said. As it is said in the Good Aeon Sutra, "To the Tathagata named Melodious Voice, the Tathagata named King of Stars, having become a cowherd, offered bakula flowers and first generated the mind of enlightenment. Similarly, to the Tathagata named Lamp of Reading, the Tathagata named Widely Renowned, offered a silk face cloth and first generated the mind of enlightenment. Similarly, to the Tathagata named Limitless Light, the Tathagata named Radiant, having become a city beggar, offered a grass lamp and first generated the mind of enlightenment. To the Tathagata named Overpowering Reliance, the Tathagata named Invincible, having become a carpenter, offered a wooden splinter and first generated the mind of enlightenment. To the Tathagata named Manjushri Fame, the Tathagata named Banner of Qualities, having become a king of medicine, offered an emblic myrobalan and first generated the mind of enlightenment." Thus and so forth it is said. Therefore, even the mind of enlightenment that is separated from practice should not be despised, because it generates limitless happiness of samsara. As the Noble

From the "Liberation of Maitreya": "Noble son, just as a diamond jewel, even if broken, can still overwhelm all excellent gold ornaments, not abandon the name of diamond jewel, and also dispel all poverty. Noble son, similarly, the diamond jewel of generating the mind of omniscience, even if lacking diligence, can still overwhelm all the gold ornaments of the qualities of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, not abandon the name of Bodhisattva, and also dispel all the poverty of samsara." It is said. From this, it should be understood that even if conduct is not proper, the mind of bodhi is still beneficial. Therefore, in the "Advice to the King Sutra," it says: "Great King, like this, you have many affairs and do many things. Day and night, at all times, in all places, in all matters, you are unable to train in all the perfections of giving, up to the perfection of wisdom. Therefore, Great King, you should generate aspiration, faith, diligence, and wishes for perfect and complete enlightenment. Whether walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, whether awake, eating, or drinking, constantly remember and contemplate with your mind. Gather, measure, and calculate all the roots of virtue of all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Noble Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and all ordinary beings, as well as your own past, future, and present, and rejoice in them. From the supreme of rejoicing, up to being equal to space and nirvana, you should rejoice. After rejoicing, you should offer worship to all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Noble Hearers, and all Solitary Buddhas. After offering, you should share it with all sentient beings. Then, in order for all sentient beings to attain omniscience and to perfect all the Buddha's teachings, like a single day, in the three times, dedicate to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Great King, if you act in this way, you will both govern the kingdom and not neglect the affairs of the king, and also bodhi.

It is also said that all merits will be perfected. The same sutra also speaks of its Vipāka (result of maturation): "Great King, due to the Vipāka of the virtuous root action of the perfectly complete Bodhicitta, you have been born many times in the realm of the gods and many times in the realm of humans. When born in the realms of gods and humans, although you have become a sovereign in all circumstances, still, Great King, the virtuous root action of your perfectly complete Bodhicitta does not diminish or increase. Similarly, even with just one unsurpassed, perfectly complete Bodhicitta, aiming to liberate all sentient beings, aiming to free all minds, aiming to comfort all sentient beings, and aiming to completely deliver all sentient beings from suffering, countless immeasurable roots of virtue arise. What need is there to mention those who do so much?" That Bodhicitta arises from seeing the form of the Buddha or from recounting previous realizations. Therefore, for the time being, it should be recognized as aspiration Bodhicitta. Regarding those who have not entered the Dharma, is it possible to give the Bodhisattva vows? If someone asks, it should be known that it is possible. As stated in the Akashagarbha Sutra, the root downfall arises from the cause of gain and respect. In the Ten Bhumi Sutra, the first Bhumi Bodhisattva states, "Except for thinking, 'I will give all these many necessities to these sentient beings,' I do not desire any respect from anyone." Similarly, it is also said that the Bodhisattva abides well in the Joyful Land (Pramudita), with an unwavering manner. It is also said that they are definitely of the Tathagata lineage and are very inclined towards perfect enlightenment. In the Akashagarbha Sutra, it is also said, "If even the Hearer Vehicle (Shravakayana) is not there, how could the Great Vehicle (Mahayana) be there?" Similarly, in the Arya Ugrapariprccha Sutra, it says, "For those who are completely bound by miserliness, precepts are established, and in the Joyful Land, they are free from the notion of self, therefore there is no attachment to self.
