It is like a good vase because it makes it complete. Like a short spear for defeating the enemy of afflictions. Like armor because it covers improper attention. Like a sword because it makes the head of afflictions fall. Like an axe because it cuts the tree of afflictions. Like a weapon because it protects from all harm. Like a raft because it brings beings who dwell in the water of samsara to the surface. Like a circle of wind because it completely scatters all the roots of obscurations and coverings. Like a concise instruction because it gathers all the practices and aspirations of bodhisattvas. Like a stupa to the world with gods, humans, and asuras. Son of lineage, thus the mind of enlightenment possesses those qualities, and it is also said to possess other immeasurable differences of qualities. Even ordinary beings can generate the mind of enlightenment. How do we know that this is not just words? From seeing many sutras. For example, as the noble Stainless Fame taught: Remembering the view of the aggregates as being equal to Mount Sumeru, the mind of enlightenment arises, and from that, the Buddha's teachings arise. As it is said. In the Jewel Accumulation Sutra, it is also said: Even ordinary beings are known as bodhisattvas. As it is said, Manjushri, for example, like a chick of a kalaviṅka bird dwelling inside an eggshell, not yet having broken the egg and not having come out of the shell, it still emits the sound of a kalaviṅka. Manjushri, likewise, a bodhisattva dwelling inside the eggshell of ignorance, not yet having broken the view of self, and not having arisen from the three realms, still emits the sound of the Buddha, that is, the sound of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. Thus it is said. In the teaching that all dharmas are unborn, it is also said: A bodhisattva who has opened a gap in the wisdom of the Victorious One, when he dies, falls into the great hell of evil destinies, because he does not believe in emptiness and is angry with those who speak of emptiness. Thus it is said. In the Sutra of the Mudra of Entering into Certainty and Uncertainty, it is also said: A bodhisattva who goes like a cart of livestock.

If so, for example, if someone wants to transcend worlds as numerous as the dust particles in five Buddha fields, and they embark on a journey riding an ox cart, traveling a long distance of a hundred yojanas, but are then blown back by a great wind wheel, pushed back ten thousand yojanas, can that person, riding the ox cart, transcend those worlds, or even transcend a single world in inexpressible, repeatedly inexpressible kalpas? World-Honored One, no. The World-Honored One said: Similarly, if someone generates the mind of enlightenment but does not uphold or recite the Great Vehicle, but relies on and practices with those of the Hearer Vehicle, reading, reciting, contemplating, and understanding the Hearer Vehicle, and even causing others to read and understand it, then that person will become dull in wisdom, drawn back from the path of unsurpassed wisdom, and regress. The power of wisdom and the eye of wisdom of such a Bodhisattva, arising from cultivating the mind of enlightenment, will also become dull and decline, like a Bodhisattva traveling in an ox cart. Therefore, for those who have faith in emptiness and rejoice in the Great Vehicle, even for those whose practice of faith is not yet complete, it is like this. What need is there to say about a Bodhisattva in the stage of supreme faith? Such a one transcends all childish conduct and wrong practices mentioned in the Ratnamegha Sutra, surpassing expression, playing with samadhi, dharani, liberation, supernormal powers, and immeasurable wisdom, delighting in limitless Dharma, being unattached by faith, not discriminating until the end of future kalpas, obtaining illumination by the power of spontaneously accomplished joy, perfecting various meditations entering the Great Vehicle for immeasurable hundreds of thousands of billions of kalpas, completing the diligence of benefiting others, and accumulating merit and wisdom.

The preparations before the accumulation manifests accomplishment are called perfect hundreds of thousands. If this is the meaning of uprightness, why are other Bodhicittas not accepted in this place? Merely accepting it here, one cannot find a special sign that makes it the meaning of uprightness. From what is said, "With faith and desire as the nature of great conduct," one should also understand how the forms of medium and small faith and desire exist. Furthermore, in the Secret Sutra of the Tathagata, it says: "World Honored One, who has generated the Bodhicitta? Great King, whose superior intention has not wavered?" The answer is: "World Honored One, whose superior intention has not wavered?" The Buddha said: "Great King, who has generated great compassion?" Again, it is asked: "World Honored One, who has generated great compassion?" The World Honored One replied: "Great King, who has generated the mind of never abandoning all sentient beings?" Again, it is asked: "World Honored One, how does one never abandon all sentient beings?" The Buddha said: "Great King, when do I abandon my happiness?" What is the meaning of this? This is said to make those who only cling to Bodhicitta generate joy in great compassion. For example, it is like saying, "Those who do not have yoga are not renunciants in the teachings of the Tathagata." Similarly, here too, it should be understood as disparaging other Bodhicittas, not saying that other forms of Bodhicitta do not arise. As it says in the Ten Dharma Sutra: "Son of good family, if a Bodhisattva abides in the lineage and has not generated Bodhicitta, the Tathagata or the Shravakas of the Tathagata exhort and cause him to be weary, causing him to correctly uphold, thereby generating the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhicitta, this is the first cause of generating faith and desire in Bodhicitta. Having heard the praise of perfect Bodhi or Bodhicitta, thereby generating the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhicitta, this is the second cause. Seeing sentient beings who are without protectors, without refuge, and without friends, generating a compassionate mind, thereby
