In the presence of others like me, one should extensively recall and fully explain the good meaning and beautiful words. Those who are not diligently trained, the childish beings, will listen and become afraid, alarmed, and terrified. Those who are terrified will turn away from the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment mind and aspire to the enlightenment of the Hearers. This is the first root downfall of a novice Bodhisattva. That root downfall will cause that son of good family to turn all previously generated roots of virtue to ashes, leading to defeat, falling from the blissful state of heaven and liberation, and deceiving his Bodhicitta, ultimately leading to falling into the lower realms. Therefore, a Bodhisattva should understand the thoughts and habitual tendencies of other beings and people. One should gradually teach the Dharma to beings according to their thoughts, just as one gradually enters the great ocean. One should apply it in this way. Furthermore, to some novice Bodhisattvas, one says: You cannot practice the six perfections, you cannot realize the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, you should quickly generate the mind of the Hearer Vehicle and the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, so that you will definitely be liberated from samsara. This is the second root downfall of a novice Bodhisattva, as mentioned above. Furthermore, to some novice Bodhisattvas, one says: Hey, what is the use of well-guarding the Pratimoksha and the Vinaya? 不要听！不要读！不要向他人传授！舍弃声闻乘的言论！因为那不会让你获得伟大的果实，也不会让你彻底消除烦恼。要信仰这大乘的言论！听闻大乘！阅读大乘！也向他人传授，那样你就能平息一切恶趣和恶道的道路，也能迅速现证无上圆满正等觉。说完后，如果他们听从那些话语，接受这种观点，那么双方都会犯根本堕罪。这是初学菩萨的第四条根本堕罪。此外，初学菩萨会做两舌。为了获得名声、利养和恭敬，口中念诵、背诵、阅读、讲述、听闻大乘，也仅仅是向他人展示，并说：“我是大乘行者，其他人不是。”因为其他人会从那些人那里获得利养和受用，因此，为了获得名声和恭敬，他们会嫉妒他人，使他们争吵，说他们的坏话，诽谤，贬低，各种诽谤。对于那些受到尊敬的人，他们也因为嫉妒而自我赞扬，向自己宣扬人类至上的功德。因此，他们会因为那些事物而失败，从大乘的安乐中堕落，他们会犯下非常严重的堕罪。 因此，他们会堕入恶趣。例如，某人想要前往珍宝岛，从船上进入大海。他在大海中自己毁坏了船只，然后就死在那里。同样，那些想要进入大乘大海的初学菩萨，因为嫉妒而说这说那，因此，他们会毁坏信仰之船，失去智慧的生命。

Do not listen! Do not read! Do not impart to others! Abandon the teachings of the Hearer Vehicle! For that will not cause you to obtain great fruit, nor will it enable you to completely eliminate afflictions. Have faith in these words of the Great Vehicle! Listen to the Great Vehicle! Read the Great Vehicle! Also impart it to others, and thus you will pacify all the paths of evil realms and unfortunate destinies, and you will quickly attain the Unsurpassed, Perfectly Complete Enlightenment. Having said this, if they listen to those words and adopt such a view, then both will incur a root downfall. This is the fourth root downfall of a novice Bodhisattva. Furthermore, novice Bodhisattvas engage in double-tongued behavior. For the sake of gain, honor, and respect, they verbally express this Great Vehicle, recite it, read it, teach it, and merely show it to others, saying, "I am a follower of the Great Vehicle, others are not." Because others will obtain benefits and enjoyment from those individuals, therefore, for the sake of gain and honor, they become jealous of others, causing them to quarrel, speaking ill of them, slandering them, disparaging them, and various forms of defamation. To those who are revered, they also praise themselves out of jealousy, proclaiming the supreme human qualities to themselves. Therefore, they will be defeated by those things and fall from the bliss of the Great Vehicle, and they will incur that very heavy downfall. Therefore, they will go to bad destinies. For example, if someone wants to go to a treasure island and enters the ocean from a ship, and then destroys the ship himself in the great ocean and dies there, similarly, those novice Bodhisattvas who want to enter the ocean of the Great Vehicle, because of jealousy, say this and that, and therefore, they will destroy the ship of faith and be separated from the life of wisdom.

若。如此，对于初学菩萨的孩童们，因嫉妒之因和虚妄之缘，会产生极重的堕落。这是初学菩萨的第五条根本堕落。此外，在未来的时候，在家和出家的初学菩萨们，对于精进修习菩萨道的贤善大士，对于在陀罗尼、忍辱和禅定之地善加修习的人们所行持的深奥空性经典，也就是大乘经典，他们会受持、念诵、口诵，并且为其他人广为宣讲。他们会说：这些法是我自己通过智慧领悟的，我以慈悲心如此为你开示，你也务必如此修习，以便这些深奥的佛法能够显现。如此做了之后，你现在也会像我一样见到智慧。他们会说：我仅仅是读诵了如此深奥的经典，只是宣讲而已，并没有真正证悟。他们为了获得名利而贩卖自己。因为这个原因，他们在过去、现在、未来三世诸佛、阿罗汉、正等觉佛陀、菩萨和一切圣者面前都是有罪的，会成为极重的堕落。他们会以大乘之名欺骗包括天神在内的世间。既然他们连声闻乘都无法进入，更不用说获得进入大乘的殊胜之处了。更不用说无上正等觉了。比如，有个人前往广阔的寂静之处，因饥渴所迫，为了食物而爬上结满丰硕果实的树。在没有品尝到香味和味道之前，就舍弃了结满丰硕果实的树，转而爬上毒树，吃了毒树的果实，最终因此而死去。这个人就像他们一样。他们会说：那些难以获得的，没有获得，即使获得了，也要依止善知识。

If so, then for those novice Bodhisattva children, heavy downfalls will occur due to the cause of jealousy and the condition of falsehood. This is the fifth root downfall of a novice Bodhisattva. Furthermore, in the future, those novice Bodhisattvas, both householders and renunciates, will hold, recite, chant, and extensively explain to others those profound sutras of emptiness, which are the practice of the learned great beings who diligently train in the Bodhisattva path, who have well trained in the grounds of dharani, patience, and samadhi, which are the Mahayana sutras. They will say: 'I have realized these teachings through my own intellect, and out of compassion, I have shown them to you in this way. You must also meditate in this way so that these profound Buddha-dharmas may become manifest.' Having done so, they will say, 'You will now see wisdom as I do.' They will say: 'I have merely read and taught such profound sutras, but I have not actually realized them.' They sell themselves for gain and honor. Because of this, they are guilty before all the Buddhas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and noble beings who have passed into the three times, and it will become a very heavy downfall. They will deceive the world, including the gods, in the name of the Mahayana. Since they cannot even enter the Hearer Vehicle, what need is there to mention obtaining the distinction of entering the Mahayana? What need is there to mention the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment? For example, a person sets out for a vast, solitary place and, threatened by hunger and thirst, climbs a tree laden with abundant fruit for food. Without having tasted the fragrance and flavor, he abandons the tree laden with abundant fruit and instead climbs a poisonous tree, eats the fruit of the poisonous tree, and eventually dies. That person is just like them. They will say: 'Those difficult to obtain, they do not obtain, and even if they obtain them, they rely on a spiritual friend.'
