Etc. Then, how to generate it? As it is said in the Sutra of the Secret of the Tathagata, Ajatashatru, after seeing the power of the Holy Vajrapani, was amazed and reported, "World Honored One!" The World Honored One said, "Great King, a Bodhisattva who possesses ten qualities can obtain such power. What are the ten? Great King, a Bodhisattva can give up his body and life, but does not give up the supreme Dharma; respects all sentient beings and does not increase arrogance; is patient with weak sentient beings and does not become angry; gives excellent delicious food to hungry sentient beings; gives fearlessness to fearful sentient beings; is happy to provide proper treatment for sick sentient beings; satisfies poor sentient beings with enjoyments; connects the stupas of the Tathagatas with lime lines; proclaims words that make all beings happy; and bears the burdens of poor, suffering, tired, and cut-off sentient beings. Great King, a Bodhisattva who possesses these ten qualities can obtain such power." What is the generation of non-laziness? It is the generation of diligence. As it is said in the Sutra Requested by Sagaramati: "Sagaramati, a Bodhisattva should always firmly initiate practice with steadfast diligence. A Bodhisattva should have strong intention and not abandon what is cherished. Sagaramati, for those who initiate diligence, it is not difficult to obtain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Why? Sagaramati, where there is diligence, there is Bodhi. For the lazy, Bodhi is very far away, extremely far away. For the lazy, everything from generosity to wisdom does not exist. For the lazy, there is no benefit to others." The Moon Lamp Sutra also says: "Just like a lotus in water, it gradually grows." Etc. This is a brief summary of the growth of the body. Possessing the essence of emptiness and compassion, enjoyment increases through generosity.

Change in between. As it says in the Vajra Cutter Sutra: "The accumulation of merit of a Bodhisattva who gives without abiding in anything is immeasurable." As it is said. Also in the Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it says: "Shariputra, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, gives a small gift to all sentient beings, and with skillful means dedicates it to the omniscient wisdom, wishing to accomplish immeasurable numbers, should study the Perfection of Wisdom. Wishing to completely fulfill the wishes of all sentient beings with resources such as gold, silver, gardens, and royal power, should study the Perfection of Wisdom." Thus it is said. It should be said that Bodhisattvas do nothing without compassion. This is a brief summary of the increase of enjoyment. Chapter Twelve, the increase of merit is the root of all increase, therefore for its sake, the preparation should be explained. Diligence and intention must also be firm. First, after making effort, placing compassion in front, diligently increase virtue. For the sake of taming the mind, diligence should be done first, even at the time of starting practice, it should be done in advance, and a verse is made for the sake of firmness. When the time of attainment is near, just as one respects those skilled in weapons, one must be firm at the same time as practice, and "first" is said in order to dispel laziness. So, how does one make diligence firm? Just as one emulates the conduct of the noble Norzang Bodhisattva, one should think in this way. Thinking about the countless past bodies, which were wasted without practicing correct behavior, makes the strength of the body extremely firm. Thinking about the countless past bodies and minds, although completely pure, becoming meaningless continuums of samsara, completely cuts off the actions of the mind and intention. Thinking about the countless past actions that were incorrect, being lazy and negligent for the sake of worldly affairs, and pointlessly exhausting energy, makes one extremely cherish the things that arise now.

Thinking can accomplish. Regarding the past, the inverted discriminations arising from unreal discriminations, with the thought of true and firm attention, can truly generate the power of all the Bodhisattva's actions, which are manifestly accumulated by true enlightenment. Contemplating the past body's engagement in activities for my own benefit, it firmly enhances the power of increased intention, surpassing the activities of all sentient beings. Contemplating the past actions of seeking desires without taste, it increases the powerful force of the senses, obtaining great exhalation through the activity of obtaining all the Buddha's teachings. Contemplating the past actions of inverted intentions, one can expand the mind-stream by making vows with the present non-inverted correct view and the Bodhisattva's aspirations. Contemplating the past efforts that were meaningless and unproductive, and the practice of diligence that was not accomplished, one can truly generate the nobility of body and mind by the subjugation achieved through the great diligence of preparing to gather all the Buddha's teachings in the present moment. Contemplating the abandonment of oneself and others in the evil destinies of the five realms at the edge of the past, and truly contemplating the acceptance of a body without sustenance, one can increase the great and intense force of joy and supreme joy by accepting a body that can accomplish all the Buddha's teachings, closely sustain all sentient beings, and serve all virtuous friends. This present birth, which is the source of aging, sickness, death, and sorrow, and which is a treasure of gathering and separation, also, at the edge of future eons, through diligence in practicing the Bodhisattva's conduct, maturing sentient beings, gathering the Buddha's teachings, beholding the face of the Thus-Gone One, and pure
