Desires give rise to many afflictions such as pride. Therefore, with all effort, completely abandon similarities with the capable one. Although similar, this is other, but due to delusion, that is this. Because of the continuous stream of thoughts, one should forcefully abide in that. This similarity is unreal, it will cause you suffering. I and all those, will soon perish. The fourteenth chapter, the chapter on the complete purification of the body, from the Compendium of Trainings. Through the practice of right livelihood, one should know that enjoyment is pure. As it is said in the Sutra Requested by the Powerful Householder: 'In this householder, the Bodhisattva householder does not seek enjoyment through Dharma, and does not seek it through non-Dharma. He seeks it through harmony, and not through disharmony. He lives by right livelihood, and not by wrong livelihood.' Thus it is said. Also, in the Noble Cloud of Jewels Sutra, it says: When a Bodhisattva sees a giver and a lord of generosity, he does not change his conduct. How does he not change his conduct? He does not look with the measure of a yoke, he does not look with sadness, he does not look with tension, he does not slowly lower and raise his steps. Thus, he does not change his conduct with his body. He does not change his conduct with his speech. How does he not change his conduct with his speech? The Bodhisattva does not flatter for the sake of gaining, he does not speak softly, he does not speak joyfully, he does not speak following words. Thus, he does not change his conduct with his speech. How does he not change his conduct with his mind? When a Bodhisattva sees a giver or a lord of generosity showing gain, he shows little desire with his words, but does not generate desire in his mind. Son of good family, for example, showing little desire with words, but desiring gain in his mind, this is inner suffering. Thus, he does not change his conduct with his mind. Thus, the Bodhisattva is free from the gain of pretense and flattery. How is he free from the gain of solicitation? When a Bodhisattva sees a giver or a lord of generosity, he does not with his own clothes

Alas, I lack a begging bowl! Alas, I lack medicine to cure my illness! Like this, one does not beg, nor does one beg from a donor or the owner of generosity, nor does one speak these words. In this way, the Bodhisattva is separated from the gains of begging. How is one separated from the gains measured by acquisition? When the Bodhisattva sees generosity and gifts, he does not say, 'So-and-so great donor gave me such-and-such thing, and I also did such-and-such great help for him.' 'This person also knows that I have discipline, am widely learned, and content with little, so he gave me this and this.' 'I also took it with a compassionate mind towards him.' He does not speak such words. In this way, the Bodhisattva is separated from the gains measured by acquisition. How is the Bodhisattva separated from the gains sought in an improper way? Son of good family, the Bodhisattva does not seek gains by causing injury to the body or injury to the mind. Injury to the body is like this: running and wandering everywhere for the sake of gains, and behaving in a way that does not conform to discipline. Injury to the mind is like this: craving for gains, living like Brahma, and having a strong harmful intention towards the gains of others. In this way, the Bodhisattva is separated from the gains sought in an improper way. How is the Bodhisattva separated from unlawful gains? Son of good family, the Bodhisattva does not cheat on the scales, does not cheat in seeking, does not harm trust, and does not accumulate gains from food. In this way, the Bodhisattva is separated from unlawful gains. How is the Bodhisattva separated from completely impure gains? Here, the Bodhisattva does not take or possess those things that are mixed with the property of stupas, or mixed with the property of the Dharma, or mixed with the property of the Sangha, or those things that are not given or allowed. He does not generate a mind of attachment. In this way, the Bodhisattva is separated from completely impure gains. How is the Bodhisattva separated from the gains of
