What is it that causes the illusion of a person? For those who speak of emptiness, how can that trunk be established in the ultimate sense? All phenomena are without a root, because in reality, a root is unreasonable. As it is said in the "Holy Vimalakīrti Nirdeśa Sūtra": 'What is the root of unreal conceptualization?' It is said, 'The root of unreal conceptualization is inverted perception.' It is asked, 'What is the root of inverted perception?' It is said, 'The root of inverted perception is without support.' It is asked, 'What is the root of without support?' It is said, 'Mañjuśrī, what could be the root of that which is without support?' Thus, all phenomena abide in the root of without support.' This is a concise method for those who wish to tame their minds to meditate on the Perfection of Wisdom. Having meditated, one should be skilled in fighting the enemy of afflictions, and not be brave in one's own home. As it is said in the "Holy Dharma-saṃgraha Sūtra": 'Those who speak of emptiness are not robbed by worldly dharmas because they do not abide. There is no joy in gain, and no displeasure in not gaining.' 'There is no elation in fame, and no depression in infamy.' 'There is no dejection in blame, and no delight in praise.' 'There is no attachment in pleasure, and no aversion in suffering.' Whoever is not robbed by worldly dharmas in this way knows emptiness. Therefore, by not being robbed, one should realize emptiness.' Similarly, those who speak of emptiness have no attachment or non-attachment to anything. Knowing emptiness in what one is attached to and what one is not attached to, one sees emptiness. Whoever is attached or not attached to any dharma knows emptiness. Similarly, whoever fights and disputes with others does not know emptiness. Whoever knows emptiness in what they fight and dispute with sees emptiness.' And so on. This is a concise method for taming the mind. If one strives to do what, will the mind quickly become pure? It is by abandoning self-praise and disparaging others. This is its root.

That is, seeing myself as me, and seeing sentient beings as sentient beings. If you get used to this, it will become easier. One should cultivate respecting others and belittling oneself. If the aggregates of sentient beings exist equally in all aspects, then how can there be a contradiction in considering one as me and the other as others? That is also without an object of focus, and through the habituation of beginningless realization, sentient beings will universally practice. What happiness is there after habituation? If the nature of such habituation becomes the same, why would it be the cause of happiness? Abandoning respect for others will lead to self-suffering and fulfilling the wishes of others. From the story of the wish-fulfilling jewel, there is a reason for respect. Respecting oneself is the act of an unlucky person, and there is no happiness from this act. Therefore, being attached to oneself, being rude, arrogant, and stingy, like a posture of surpassing everything. One should cultivate the opposite of that. Respecting oneself, being soaked by praise, slander, etc., grows, like being irrigated with the grease of hell, like the fire of hell. For the time being, because the enemy has no mind, it is impossible to think that they are praising me. Thinking that others like me, have fame, this is my wisdom being confused. I am happy when he is happy, that is always universal. If you say that it is useless, then what use is happiness to me? Whether it is others or myself, what use is it to me that others are happy? This is not the happiness of others, my body does not want happiness. Having understood that, one should abandon baseless conceptualizations. Not being praised, slandered, and not being respected, know that it is meaningless. Prostrations etc. do not change the Dharma, longevity and health, and strength do not change. When arguing, it is like others changing the body. Whether happy or unhappy, gaining and not gaining are the same. Having abandoned meaningless distinctions like that, one should be as firm as a mountain. By abandoning intimacy, the mind will quickly become pure. Here, too, one should think that from clinging to characteristics, through recognition, again and again, subsequent attachment will arise. Anger will arise from this. Whoever has subsequent attachment and anger cannot prevent sins. Jealousy and stinginess together will produce various slanders. Gaining etc.
