Furthermore, it is also said in the Sutra Pitaka: "It is well explained that feeling is experienced. If there is no experiencer other than feeling, who will experience it? Just like enlightenment, it is peaceful, pure, and bright. Those who are skilled in this feeling should establish mindfulness in this way." This is a brief summary of the mindfulness of feeling. The mindfulness of mind is as stated in the Ratnakuta Sutra: "In this way, the mind is fully aware. What are those minds that become attached, hateful, or ignorant? Are they past, future, or present? The past mind is exhausted. The future mind has not yet come. The present mind has no abiding. O Radiance, the mind is neither inside nor outside, nor in both, and is invisible. O Radiance, the mind is formless, cannot be shown, is unobstructed, has no support, is invisible, is non-discriminating, and has no place. O Radiance, the mind is not seen, not seen, and will not be seen even by all the Buddhas. Except for the arising of phenomena from distorted consciousness, how should one understand the behavior of that which is not seen, not seen, and will not be seen even by all the Buddhas? O Radiance, the mind is like an illusion, holding many forms of arising through false conceptualization. Similarly, O Radiance, the mind is like a stream of water, impermanent, arising and decaying, and disappearing. O Radiance, the mind is like the wind, traveling far and wide, moving without being grasped. O Radiance, the mind is like the flame of a lamp, arising from causes and conditions. O Radiance, the mind is like the sky, defiled by sudden afflictions and near afflictions. O Radiance, the mind is like lightning, decaying in an instant and not abiding. Similarly, O Radiance, the mind is like an unfriendly person because it generates all suffering. O Radiance, the mind is like a sandcastle because it destroys all roots of virtue. O Radiance, the mind is

Because of perceiving happiness in suffering, it is like fish spittle. O Light Protector, because of perceiving self in what is selfless in the mind, it is like a dream. O Light Protector, because the mind perceives what is impure as pure, it is like a blue fly. O Light Protector, because the mind causes many kinds of harm, it is like an opponent. O Light Protector, because the mind always seeks faults, it is like a Yaksha who steals essence. O Light Protector, because the mind always looks for opportunities, it is like an enemy. O Light Protector, because the mind possesses attachment and anger, it is always high and low. O Light Protector, because the mind steals all roots of virtue, it is like a thief. O Light Protector, because the mind likes form, it is like the eyes of a cat. O Light Protector, because the mind likes sound, it is like a war drum. O Light Protector, the mind likes smell, just as a pig likes impure smells. O Light Protector, the mind likes taste, so it is like a servant girl who eats food scraps. O Light Protector, because the mind likes touch, it is like a bee attached to a sesame oil container. O Light Protector, the mind cannot be found even if it is sought everywhere. That which cannot be found is invisible. That which is invisible is neither past, nor future, nor present. That which is neither past, nor future, nor present is that which has completely transcended the three times. That which has completely transcended the three times is neither existent nor non-existent. As it is said, and so on. In the Noble Jewel Peak Sutra, it also says: Therefore, by thoroughly searching for the mind, one cannot truly see the mind within. One cannot truly see the mind outside. One cannot truly see the mind inside and outside. One cannot truly see the mind in the aggregates. One cannot truly see the mind in the elements. One cannot truly see the mind in the sense bases. Because one cannot truly see the mind in this way, one thoroughly searches for the origin of the mind, thinking, "The mind will arise from having an object." It also thinks like this: What

Is the object also other, and the mind also other? Or is the object whatever it is, is that itself the mind? If the object is also other, and the mind is also other, then the mind becomes two. Or if the object is whatever it is, is that itself the mind, then how can the mind see the mind itself? The mind cannot see the mind. For example, just as the edge of a sword cannot cut the edge of the sword itself, and the tip of a finger cannot touch the tip of the finger itself, so too, the mind itself cannot see the mind itself, I think. Combine it like that. Son of good family, furthermore, whatever is faster than fast, travels without staying, like a monkey and the wind, like a flowing river and a butter lamp, goes to a distant place. Without a body, craving objects, using the six sense sources, the mind possessing other and other consciousnesses. Abiding, one-pointed, not scattering. Not scattering. One-pointed in calm abiding. Without distraction, this is called mind abiding, it is said. In the Sutra of the Noble Inexhaustible Intellect, it is also said: I should strive to accomplish, and I will not abandon this nature of mind, I think. So what is the nature of mind, and what is accomplished? The mind is like an illusion, whatever is given to this, that is called the nature of mind. Whatever is completely given away, and completely dedicated for the sake of purifying all Buddha-fields, this is called accomplishment, and so on. Remembering the Dharma is, for the time being, just as it is said there. A Bodhisattva, with respect to the Dharma, observes according to the Dharma, and abides in that from which there is no Buddha-dharma, from which there is no Bodhi, from which there is no path, from which there is no liberation, from which there is no Dharma of definite emergence, nothing is seen. He knows that all Dharmas arise, and in order to know that beings are without obscurations, he will obtain the door of the Samadhi of Great Compassion. He will obtain the understanding that all Dharmas and all afflictions are also like illusions. These Dharmas are afflictions.
