It is good, or whatever the conduct may be, the eyes should not be closed too much, nor should they be opened too much, but focus on the tip of the nose, and the body should not be bent too much, nor should it be leaned back too much, but sit upright and straight, placing mindfulness within. Then, keep the shoulders level, the head neither too high nor too low, and not tilted to one side, keep it straight from the nose to the navel. The teeth and lips should also be kept in a natural state. The tongue should also be placed against the root of the teeth. The breath moving in and out should not be noisy, nor heavy, nor rapid, but without any sensation, inhale and exhale slowly and naturally. First, practice calming the mind for a while, pacifying the distractions of external objects, and focusing inward, naturally entering and abiding in the mind that possesses joy and great pliancy, this is called calming the mind. When focusing on calming the mind itself, whatever activity is directed towards it is insight, as it is said in the Noble Cloud of Jewels Sutra: "Calming the mind is single-pointedness of mind, insight is correct discernment." Therefore, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) taught the four objects of focus for yogis: non-conceptual image, conceptual image, the limit of things, and the complete accomplishment of the purpose. Among these, the object of focus for calming the mind is the image of all phenomena, and devotion to Buddha images and so on, which is called the non-conceptual image. Because there is no conceptualization of the true meaning, it is called non-conceptual. Because it is devotion to and focus on the images of the dharmas as they have been heard and understood, it is called an image. In order for the yogi to understand that sole meaning, when insight examines that very image, it is called the conceptual image because there is only the characteristic of insight, that is, the conceptualization of understanding that sole meaning. The yogi, by understanding the very nature of that image, understands the nature of all phenomena,

Just as one comprehends according to reality, observing the reflection of one's face appearing in a mirror, just as the ugliness of one's face and so forth become apparent. When one realizes the suchness of the nature of things, because one comprehends the limit of things, it is called focusing on the limit of things on the first ground. That is like taking and consuming the essence of medicine, through the path of meditation, on the remaining grounds, gradually, very, extremely purified, transforming the basis in an instant, and when the nature of abandoning all obscurations, the need is completely fulfilled, then on the Buddha ground, it is called focusing on the accomplishment of that very wisdom itself. So, what does this show? By familiarizing oneself with calm abiding and insight, one will realize the limit of things, and thereby obtain the nature of abandoning all obscurations, the complete fulfillment of what is needed. That itself is Buddhahood, therefore, desiring to attain Buddhahood, one should cultivate calm abiding and insight. If one does not cultivate that, then one will not realize the limit of things, nor will one achieve the complete fulfillment of what is needed, this will be shown. In this regard, how should a yogi first see the body of the Thus-gone One, and how should one settle the mind from hearing, thereby accomplishing calm abiding? The body of the Thus-gone One is also like refined gold, it is yellow, adorned with excellent marks and signs, residing within a retinue, constantly attending to the meaning of sentient beings through various methods, thereby generating desire for his qualities, pacifying sinking and excitement, and meditating in such a way that one clearly sees him as if he were residing in front of one. The noble "King of Samadhi Sutra" says: "With a body like the color of gold, the protector of the world is beautiful everywhere, whoever settles the mind on that object, the Bodhisattva is called the one who dwells in equanimity of mind." Thus it is said. After that, one should cultivate insight, just like the image of the body of the Thus-gone One, it has not come from anywhere, nor does it go anywhere, although it seems to abide, but in reality, its nature is empty, just like that, it is separated from self and what belongs to self.
