This is a discussion on accomplishing in one vehicle (yana). The second chapter on patience in the profound Dharma ends. Thus, to show the holding of the sacred Dharma as possessing one vehicle (yana), it is said, "The sacred Dharma should be fully embraced." "Always" means "uninterruptedly." These should also be fully embraced because wisdom focuses on emptiness, and compassion focuses on sentient beings. The objection that there is something more than the previously taught diligence of listening is answered by saying, "What is it?" Because there is no fault in general and in particular, it is said, "Manjushri." Above, it was shown as listening to some (Dharma), but here, it is explained in general because it accomplishes the meaning derived from it, which is the answer. Therefore, first, the necessity of holding the Dharma is shown, which is "If one fully embraces the sacred Dharma," and so on. Because there is no difference between the Dharma and fully holding the Dharma, "Bodhisattva" and so on are spoken. Because the fruit arises from the collection of causes, it is said, "Sentient beings should be fully embraced." In the Sutra of the Hot River, it is said that respecting sentient beings is the cause of Buddhahood, therefore it is said, "The lineage of the Buddha should not be cut off." Having thus spoken in general, now it will be explained in detail. "The lineage of the Buddha" and so on are spoken. The lineage of the Buddha refers to not abandoning the precepts established from those previously taught, intending to purify the precepts, therefore, the Dharma is fully embraced. Also, because one wants to accomplish benefiting others, it is said, "The afflictions of sentient beings." The activity of a Bodhisattva is primarily to benefit others. In order to fully ripen oneself, temporarily speaking from the perspective of higher realms, "Cutting off the gates of all bad destinies." Bad destinies refer to hells and other sentient beings. Gates refer to killing and so on. Cutting off is because of holding the Dharma. What is a higher realm? It is said, "Wheel-turning king," which is from the perspective of human perfection. From the perspective of divine perfection, there are "Indra" and so on.
