It is the ground. Therefore, since a reversed understanding of the final consciousness and the intermediate state arises, one will fall. These cause them to arise equally, so it is an emanation. Since one is satisfied with various methods, it is called experiencing discomfort. Great compassion is the activity of all times. Non-retrogression is established on the eighth ground. Such a demonstration of all activities, if it is a straightforward meaning, is not included, if someone asks. Then, establishing it with a definitive meaning is "O monks," and so on. Among these, the five desirable qualities, such as form, are the pleasures of desire. Because it is the extinction of the single direction of pure conduct, it is the happiness of leaving home. Due to the previously stated meanings, it is the happiness of the four dhyanas and the samadhis of gradual abiding. Since the path of seeing is attained, it is the happiness of perfect enlightenment. These are also shown by the examples of non-attachment to appearance and action, and since it is all times, it is said, "At that time." Therefore, like this, these sutras, such as the *Name Extremely Pacified Sutra*, explain the previous sutras. Name extremely pacified, and shaking, pacified, and separated, should be understood as explaining the purity of realization. Since there is no imputation by conditions, it should be understood as explained by the nature of phenomena. Since desire is exhausted, and so on, it should be understood as explained by entering through the door of abandonment. Those that arise from the *Extremely Extensive Wisdom Sutra* should be understood as explained by entering through the door of action. Therefore, the Bhagavan said that the sutras should be explained by other sutras. Therefore, it should be understood that these make the benefit of oneself and others the ultimate extinction. Having said this, now, in order to show the collection of those meanings by other sutras, it is said, "From the *Lankavatara Sutra*." Since the continuity of activity is uninterrupted, actions and so on do not enter extinction, because they pervade all times and places. The previously stated nature, suchness, and so on, are the characteristic of self-nature without cessation, not entering extinction. The activity of the Tathagata is not interrupted like a lamp being extinguished, so it is not the cessation of things, it does not enter extinction as a thing.

So, what is it like? It is the cessation of conceptualization. As the scripture says: The afflictions of a Bodhisattva are conceptualizations. When all conceptualizations cease, then I will attain Nirvana. As it is said, it is the cessation of conceptualization. Discriminative consciousness is grasping at characteristics. When grasping at characteristics is abandoned, then discriminative consciousness ceases. In this, understanding is general understanding. Discriminative consciousness is specific understanding, that is their difference. From the explanation of the Collected Sutras, measured by scriptural authority, the ninth is the discourse on the difficulty of gaining faith in Nirvana. From the Collected Sutras, the chapter on forbearance of the profound Dharma, the first chapter is complete. Thus, having determined the nature of the fruit to be attained, which is Nirvana, now we shall speak of the distinctions of the path to be attained. Here, some with pride of manifest knowledge who do not know the established tenets of the noble Nagarjuna and the noble Asanga say this: The three vehicles spoken of by the Blessed One are of definitive meaning, I have taught the great vehicles of hearers, solitary realizers, and the unsurpassed. Taking this sutra as a standard, the noble Asanga thought ambiguously, saying that the teaching of the three vehicles is also of definitive meaning. Thinking that such persons would arise who do not understand the meaning of the Blessed One's words and the intention of the noble Asanga, in order to benefit them and to establish the definitive meaning, it is said that faith is definitely grasping, because it is taught for the sake of showing the one vehicle. It is extremely difficult to obtain because it is possible to accumulate merit. Those say that beings are of the nature of five kinds of lineages, so their fruit is also three vehicles. Speaking of one lineage also, because: The Thusness is in all, without distinction, because it is pure. Therefore, the Tathagata-essence is its cause. All beings have the essence of it. Therefore, the one vehicle is spoken of, referring to those whose lineage is not fixed and those who have the lineage of the Great Vehicle. The noble Maitreya said: Some are for guiding, and others are for definite grasping. The perfect Buddhas have taught one vehicle to those who are not definite.
