That is, the mind of omniscience is the aspiration mind that desires perfect enlightenment. The mind of destruction is the four dharmas that cause degeneration, exceeding the time limit, abandoning sentient beings, and abandoning the aspiration for enlightenment. Enlightenment is the fruit, which is to be obtained. Degeneration is for the sake of abandoning the cause. However, relying on upholding, what is it that becomes restored, as it is said. To obtain the mind of omniscience is the action of practice with faith. Surpassing the other shore of all dharmas is surpassing the ten perfections of the ten bhumis. The realm of dharma is the emptiness of all dharmas. Surpassing is manifest realization, that is, manifest Buddhahood. The summary of that is, therefore, the meaning is summarized by showing the reason. Thus, relying on the supreme spiritual friend, along with the benefits, is shown. Showing the manner of relying on the unsurpassed spiritual friend, it is said, "unsurpassed." Here, why are two kinds of differences in upholding mentioned? It is to show the two kinds of objects of mind generation mentioned earlier, Taking and abandoning from the existing object is to be done by the spiritual friend who accomplishes it. Showing taking and abandoning from the non-existing object is done by the unsurpassed spiritual friend. What is the nature of existence and non-existence? If it is certain that a great meaning will be lost, then even at a great distance it is non-existent. If it is not certain, then even beyond a hundred yojanas it is existent. What is meant by perfection, is it desired by the power of things or by the power of thought? It is by the power of things. The Great Vehicle is established by the power of things, not by the power of thought. How is that known? From the lineage of teachings. If it is accomplished by the power of thought, then how is it established from the qualities and closeness to things for what is established as close attention and what is not established as close attention? For those who focus on intention, it is not appropriate to fear by the power of things, for example, because it is said that the fruit is not good because it is established in reverse because the inside is fully ripe and the outside is not ripe. Thus, the basis of seeing and so on is the Great Vehicle.

There is not. Because things have faults, even if there is no fault there, it will act like an obstacle, as it says in the Compendium of the Great Vehicle. Moreover, the vows of Bodhisattvas should be understood only from the aspect of things. The vows of Hearers are understood from the aspect of intention, as it says in the Compendium. Also, the spiritual friend of a Bodhisattva, is not perfect but thinks it is, does not have it in mind but thinks it is, in what way does he think? It is said from the aspect of things, as it says in the Collection of Vinaya Texts. It is too verbose, now let's get to the point. "Unsurpassed" means that the qualities have reached the ultimate. The ultimate meaning of good is Nirvana. Because it shows the cause of that, it is a spiritual friend. What is that? It is called the Tathagata. "Abiding" means the body is manifest. "Completely extinguished" means the support is manifest. "Offering" means wealth and practice. "Service" means laying out seats and so on for those who have manifested their bodies. Is the so-called superior and unsurpassed established based on things or based on intention? It is based on things. Because the Tathagata is called the lord of men, and others are said to learn from him. If it is based on intention, then everything is unsurpassed. As it is said in the sutras, the Guru is also the body of the perfectly enlightened Buddha, and so on. Is seeing what is not as what is not a perverse perception? No, it is not. Because the activities of body, speech, and mind are not different. Because the body of the perfectly enlightened Buddha shows forms that are appropriate to the faculties of those to be tamed, so the signs and marks are not fixed. Because speech shows the activity of teaching the Dharma to those to be tamed. Because the activity of mind is to show according to intention. What is the difference between the individual ordinary person's acceptance and this? Therefore, from the perspective of activity, there is no difference. Because sentient beings and Buddhas have the same essence. Enough of the elaboration. Now, in order to show the benefits of relying on the unsurpassed spiritual friend, one will obtain immeasurable accumulations of merit.
