It is also said so. The loss of what has not been attained is the complete abandonment of meditation and the four immeasurables. The loss of what has been attained is like the ritual of higher practice. Generating jealousy is like thorns. Difficult to separate is like a mud pit. It is also said that, in order to liberate all sentient beings, one should not have the thought of self-aggrandizement, which is called "individual examination." "After individual examination" means that the liberation of all sentient beings should be practiced as the goal. Desire, which is the merit of the self, should abandon the thought of flaunting its smallness. An example is drawn in a reverse way, as it is said under the banyan tree. A town is a house of trade and commerce. Thinness is small desire. Mildness is gentle breath. Thus, it must be abandoned from the perspective of faults, therefore it is called "inexhaustible," that is, untamed. Contempt is disdain. Fame is praise. One must respect the Dharma and the speaker of the Dharma, therefore, one should not have the thought of exposing the faults of the Dharma teacher. "Deceit and hypocrisy should also be completely abandoned." It means that changing behavior to other ways with the mind of wanting to obtain merits, etc., is deceit, because it is deception. Not being upright is hypocrisy. What is shown from the opposite side is the phrase "when obstructing." Complete abandonment is for generating respect for the Dharma and the speaker of the Dharma. Therefore, it is also said in the sutras, "One should have the perception of medicine for the Dharma," and so on. What is shown from the perspective of following is "the basis is also two," that is, uprightness and non-deceit, which is not having the thought of exposing secret faults. Thus, in what place does one listen in such a way of listening to the Dharma? In order to show the difference of complete reception, it is said "wanting to diligently accomplish," diligently accomplishing is for the sake of accomplishing. From complete reception, for what reason? Because for very hidden things, the scriptures are the main thing, because manifestation and recollection do not apply. Then, for a Bodhisattva who has the immaculate splendor of learning, the Dharma will also appear in valleys, pillars, and walls, thus showing how complete reception is praised, that is a superior thought.

Although the benefits of printing have been explained, here, for beginners, if they do not rely on fully embracing the white Dharma, how can they enter? If it is said that they rely on their own actions, then, if it is merely wanting to have completely pure superior intention, then it has already been explained that self-arising conceptualization will occur. Since that is the case, then what should be done? It is not relying on a little bit of scripture, etc. Why? "Conceptualization is dependent and uncertain, not pervasive, false, and causes weariness. Because it relies on children, therefore it is considered not to be the object." Like that. If you ask, what scripture are you referring to? That is also not the case, because without scriptural authority, even the meaning of what appears cannot be understood, let alone the meaning that is extremely hidden. The noble Asanga also said, "Without understanding the scriptures, through conceptualization, the dharmas do not abide as they are." If it is said that one has understood and comprehended, then one relies on that, that is also not the case, even in the ways of worldly people, "Wisdom is learned from books, not from the mouth of a lama, it is not beautiful in the midst of many, like a pregnant prostitute." Since it says that, for extremely hidden meanings, without a virtuous friend, the scriptures say, "Without oars to hold, a boat will not reach the shore of the ocean. Likewise, without a lama, a practitioner will not reach the end of samsara." Like that which is said, and also the noble Vasubandhu sought instructions from a hundred out of a thousand virtuous friends, and also a virtuous friend should not be abandoned even for the sake of one's life, therefore, one must definitely rely on fully embracing. If you ask, what is the fully embracing that has great purpose? There are two types: the superior virtuous friend and the unsurpassed virtuous friend. The first is of two types: having scriptural authority and having practice. Among them, having scriptural authority is having undeviated instructions. Having practice is the perfect virtuous friend. What is that? It refers to one who possesses four qualities: having few desires and being content, cherishing with compassion, having the vows of individual liberation and the vows of a Bodhisattva, and perfect wisdom.
