Attachment becomes a source of affliction. Without effort or diligence, afflictions do not arise, so one does not practice the Dharma. If there is no effort, will one be liberated? If one assumes that actions are self-existent, that is not correct. Here, "without effort or diligence" means that one should not strive to abandon afflictions that are established as real, because that is wrong. Why? If things themselves were established as real, by what means could they be removed? If one assumes that establishment is self-existent, it is not reasonable for self-existence to change, because it is uncreated. In that case, the liberation of abandonment is prolonged, because there is no antidote. So, what should it be like? To conceive of the non-existent as existent is a perversion, so the faults of affliction are explained. To be free from the conception of existence is called non-deluded wisdom. So, is it by conceiving of non-existence? If existent things are not established, what will become non-existent? Therefore, conceiving of non-existence will not occur either, because all extremes have been completely abandoned. Therefore, afflictions are false and not established as real. Non-conceptualization is abiding in the nature of bliss, and when it arises, it dispels darkness like light, not by moving to another place or putting things down. Therefore, it is to refute some internal heretics who think that way. It has been shown that there is no effort or diligence. Another way of saying it is that when in meditative equipoise, abiding in the nature of non-conceptualization is suitable as a cause for the arising of wisdom. Otherwise, love and so on, although they are causes that are contrary to delusion, are also spoken of in this way. Non-doing means not striving to abandon afflictions. Non-action means not striving to generate antidotes, therefore it is said: "Here there is nothing to be removed, there is nothing to be established, look at reality as it is, seeing reality is liberation." So it is said. So, by what means does one generate impermanence? By relying on conception. By what does one abandon conception? By non-conception itself, therefore it is said: "Having relied on an object, non-objectivity is fully generated." Like that which was said. Second, in order to obtain the wisdom of all-knowing,

Therefore, the intention of gain and respect is the desire to practice the Dharma. Dharma refers to the wisdom that knows all things. Practice refers to obtaining that wisdom. Gain refers to necessities. Respect refers to providing seats and so on. Why should these be completely abandoned? Because they destroy all the merits of what is seen and what is to be seen, and they increase all faults. Among them, merit refers to discipline and so on. Fault refers to breaking the precepts and so on. Therefore, it is said that "generating ignorance" and so on. Ignorance here refers to non-attention. Destroying mindfulness means causing the vows of discipline to decline. The benefit of self is the happiness of this life. Generating wavering means falling away from the work of benefiting sentient beings, which is deceiving others. Arrogance and so on refers to pride, because it does not generate merit, such as generosity and so on, and it causes merit to decline, so it will not completely accumulate good Dharma. Because it causes the Pratimoksha vows to decline, it is not allowed, because it engages in the ten non-virtuous deeds. Because it causes the Bodhisattva vows to decline, the root of downfall is like a defeated Dharma. Because it generates stinginess, it was mentioned earlier that there is respect, and later there is no respect because of the fault of complete attachment. Because the mind is distracted, meditation and immeasurable minds are completely abandoned, and the immeasurable mind is the cause of being born in the Brahma realm. Because of being lazy, it is similar to the practice of higher conduct, and laziness is the cause of causing the merits that have been obtained to decline. Because anger arises, there is extreme entry, and hatred harms the mind, so it is like a thorn. Wrong wisdom is like a swamp, and not understanding is because of being confused about the path of liberation. The result of ripening refers to sentient beings in hell and so on. Some people generate afflictions and near afflictions, so they destroy mindfulness and generate arrogance and so on. Because of disobeying the teachings, they engage in impermissible behavior. Because they cause discipline to decline, they lose the root of virtue. The fault that is seen is that they will not do it later.
