Therefore, it is said that one abides in emptiness and so on. Emptiness and so on are insight. Non-distraction is calm abiding. Extreme solitude is the collection of samadhi. The two accumulations are called accomplishing the teachings because they are given by the Buddha. The meaning of the extensive explanation is summarized as follows: It is said, 'As long as there is conceptualization,' and so on. What is practiced by the general, the specific, and the two is conceptualization, various conceptualizations, and complete conceptualizations. Because of conceptualizing with four terms, it is seeing and so on. If so, how will the first learners abide? By entrusting their consciousness to the emptiness that possesses all kinds of excellence, they will realize the accumulation of merit and abandon all faults. Therefore, even the first learners abandon it through the gate of refutation. Otherwise, if one wants to forcibly abandon conceptualizations, one will become incurable by refuting conditioned phenomena. Not knowing the meaning of solitude, only engaging in listening, and not doing virtuous deeds, those inferior men will be destroyed. As the noble one himself said, 'To slander what truly exists by saying it does not exist is called not being well-grasped, and one should know that this is falling away from the holy Dharma Vinaya.' The noble Asanga also said this in the Bodhisattva Bhumi. Therefore, the Bhagavan also said, 'The view of the aggregates as a self, which is like Mount Sumeru, can be cured, but the one with pride who holds to emptiness cannot be cured.' Later, it is said that the separation of skillful means and wisdom is bondage. It is also said that all virtuous deeds performed without skillful means are the work of demons. Therefore, knowing error as error and gradually abandoning it is called abandoning error. As it is said, 'If these various things are all errors, what is not an error? If one knows only to abandon errors, one should know that it is not an error.' Thus it is desired. Now, it is said that demons arise for those who have diligence, so the characteristic of that is stated: The work of demons arises from diligence. What kind of diligence is not an opposing factor to demons? How do demons arise in diligence? Why?

To the objector, what can thieves do to those who possess jewels and treasures, but what can enemies do to the poor and destitute? Similarly, what can Mara do to the laziness that arises from Mara for those who strive in virtue? That is to say, Mara seeks the weaknesses of those who strive. So, what are diligence and so on? As it is said in the scriptures, "To what extent do they combine with the two." The "two" here refers to the nature of the grasped and the grasper. Are the grasped and the grasper not real? The scriptures also say, "At that time, I became the king of the wild animals in the mountains, a lion with sound limbs." It is also said, "Bhikkhus, when the night had passed and dawn had arrived, they heard the sound of the wild animals in the mountains making the sound 'che'." Isn't that what was said? How to refute the grasped and the grasper? The objector asks, "Why is that?" Because the grasped and the grasper are illusions that have been habitual since beginningless time, so they are not real, because they are harmed by reason and scripture. And to establish the nominal designation that shows selflessness, saying the grasped and the grasper of self and what belongs to self, there is no fault. Worldly people, due to the habits ingrained by beginningless illusions, cling to reality, so they combine with the two. Therefore, it shows that separation from the two, so combination is real, meaning it is not inverted. Precisely because of this, there is no clinging to the attainment, so the supreme attainment is no combination, because non-combination itself is combination. Non-elaboration refers to being free from the eight extremes of elaboration. Summarizing what has been said above, as it is said in the scriptures, "Where does one not combine with the eye." Since the deeds of the trusting Mara can be understood by implication, it is not said here, it should be connected with the situation of combining with the diligence that has just passed. Now, to show the harm done by Mara, that is, in the visible Dharma, to cause people to fall away from the supreme vehicle, and when it is invisible, to cause them to fall away from the supreme basis. Therefore, in a metaphorical way, after examining through five ways, relying on a spiritual friend to abandon, that is, it mentions these twenty sons of the gods, as well as the eight deeds of Mara, the eighteen behaviors of Mara, and the supreme deeds of Mara.
