These are the Bardo. It can also be said: What is the cause of generating Bodhicitta? What is the condition? What is the commitment? What is non-degeneration? What is degeneration? What is the restoration after degeneration? The causes are fivefold: familiarizing oneself with the four immeasurables, seeing the suffering of sentient beings, knowing oneself through refuge, purifying the continuum by accumulating merit, the basis manifesting and harmonizing the continuum, and familiarizing oneself with compassion. The condition is relying on a virtuous friend. The commitment is making aspirations for the main practice through perfect application and giving instructions afterwards. Non-degeneration is cultivating Bodhicitta and so on, as mentioned before. Degeneration is turning into the unfavorable aspects mentioned before. Restoration after degeneration is returning from degeneration. Therefore, for the time being, one should recognize it as aspiration Bodhicitta. The four immeasurables are equanimity, loving-kindness, compassion, and joy. First, one should cultivate equanimity, because it is like the earth. After that is loving-kindness, because it is like gold. Compassion is like a seed. Joy is like brightening the face. How to familiarize oneself? A person with a dull faculty should familiarize themselves gradually, a person with a medium faculty should familiarize themselves in a medium way, and a person with a sharp faculty should familiarize themselves all at once. Thus, equalizing oneself and others and cherishing others are its causes. To attain the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, taking refuge and following the non-degenerating Dharma of refuge are also two causes, as it is said: The Buddhas and the Sugata's Dharma, If one has faith in the Sangha, the mind arises, The mind of thinking of Bodhi qualities arises, It is not without cause, but arises from cause. It is said. If someone asks, wanting to attain it, why does the mind arise? Answer: This desire is not for pleasure or kingship, Not for one's own happiness, benefit, or fame. It is said, therefore clarifying the special refuge. Accumulating merit is everything from prostrations etc. up to dedication. The cause is clearly stated in the conduct of the Well-Gone Ones. The basis manifests
