and compassion. Not expounding is the same as manifest enlightenment. If there is manifest enlightenment, then the wheel of Dharma is turned. If that is turned, then the wisdom of the noble ones will arise. If that arises, then there will be manifest and complete enlightenment. Since it arises in the manner of a wheel, it is not expounding. Some say that lineage is the basis of reality and so forth. Some say that it should be entered into the first ground, being gathered by the four truths of the path of seeing. Some say that it is the six perfections. Some say that it is skillful means and wisdom, skillful means being the father and wisdom being the mother, therefore it is born from that (the two). Some say that it is the precepts established by the Buddha. Some consider it to be the samadhi and great compassion of the Buddha presently abiding manifestly. Some say that it is the mind of aspiration and the mind of engagement. Having explained it extensively in this way, the collection of all benefits is that it is said, "What is the merit of the mind of enlightenment?" and so forth. Some consider that this is the collection of the benefits of aspiration and engagement. Some consider that this is the collection of the benefits of engagement. Some consider that this is the collection of the benefits of the complete application. Some consider that these are explanations of the definitive meaning. Now, the nature of the mind of enlightenment will be shown. Here, the nature is consciousness, focusing on a special object, able to lead without end, the object being emptiness and compassion. The alaya consciousness is because it is unobscured and unstated, the afflicted mind is because it is constantly associated with the four tainted wheels (afflictions), and the five sense consciousnesses are because they are stable, only consciousness is mentioned. Great joy and great action, great benefit and great arising, Bodhisattva great hero, arising of the mind possessing two meanings. Thus it is explained. By what is it superior? From what is it superior? It is superior to the ordinary beings, shravakas, and pratyekabuddhas' minds of wisdom and compassion respectively. To illustrate this, it is also said in the Sutra of the Collection of True Dharma.

Etc. It is said. The term "all dharmas" refers to all white dharmas. Because it arises from that, it is called that. Therein, because wisdom realizes all dharmas as emptiness, it is equal to the realm of dharma, etc. Because it focuses on the groundlessness of conventional truth, it is empty wisdom. Because it arises from the cause of delusion, it is temporary. Because it deceives, it is not abiding. Because it is always inappropriate, it is not something to be fully understood. In this way, by abandoning delusion, through the gate of showing emptiness to others, showing compassion is like saying, "Even sentient beings," etc. Others say that all dharmas are emptiness, like the center of the sky, so they are equal. However, merely appearance is not obstructed, and no slander is made, so it is merely something to be known. Because it is free from delusion, it is empty wisdom. If so, how does it abide, knowing that the object of wisdom is conventional truth? It is said to be temporarily arisen, because ignorance is examined. Because it does not rely on the nature of reality, it is not abiding. Because it is not the object of direct perception and inference, it is not something to be fully understood. Thus, being endowed with compassion, focusing on all beings, which is superior to the Shravakas, etc., is like saying, "The mind of benefit and happiness," etc. Because it is superior to viewing things as real by emptiness, it is like saying, "The mind that does not change by emptiness," etc. Now, in order to express the nature of generating the mind of enlightenment, it is said, "By completely dedicating to omniscience," etc. There are two types of nature: aspiring to enlightenment and engaging in its cause. Therefore, first, expressing the nature of generating the mind of aspiration, is like saying, "To omniscience," etc. Because aspiration is aspiration, it is called complete dedication. How so? Because one makes the aspiration, "May I become perfectly enlightened and benefit sentient beings." There are two types of essence of enlightenment: the essence of abiding enlightenment and the essence of realization enlightenment. Here, it refers to the essence of abiding enlightenment. The fruits of humans and gods, and the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas.
