It is said in many sutras that the mind of enlightenment has two aspects: the nature of aspiration and engagement. Why is that? Because it desires the fruit and the cause. If that is the case, desiring the supreme fruit is aspiration, and striving for its cause is engagement. Some say that the ultimate mind of enlightenment, which focuses on emptiness, is engagement, while the conventional mind of enlightenment, which is primarily compassion, is aspiration. Some say that manifestly accumulating roots of virtue is engagement, while not accumulating is aspiration. Some consider pure intention to be aspiration, because it is aspiration. Perfected application is considered engagement, because it is practice. Therefore, the distinction shown is "those who" and so on. Among them, "those who" refers to those with faith. "Generating the mind of enlightenment" refers to those with aspiration. "Preparing" refers to engagement. The benefits of the mind of enlightenment, its essence, and the nature of generating the mind should also be understood. Among them, the general benefits are shown first, such as "like a seed" and so on. The mind of enlightenment is the nature of aspiration and engagement. The Buddha's teachings are powers and so on. "Seed" refers to becoming the cause of growth. Other commentators believe that these statements from the Sutra of the Arrayed Tree are the benefits of the ultimate mind of enlightenment. But this is not reasonable, because if the so-called ultimate is the nature of desire, making faith the object. This is merely desire. If it is the path of seeing, then what is the main cause of generating it? If it is the mind of enlightenment, then why not consider these also to be the grounds of practice through faith? If it is said that it does not exist on that ground, then why does it exist on this ground? It simply does not exist. How can the meaning of "like a seed of all the Buddha's teachings" be guided? What specific manifest signs are there due to the power of desire? If it is said that the cause of generating the path of seeing is not the mind of enlightenment, then the path of meditation

What is the cause of arising? Therefore, refutation and examination are the same. Extensive explanation is sufficient. Now, in order to show the commonality, temporarily showing the meaning of Abhisamaya, that is, on the path of accumulation, like a seed of white Dharma; arising from the indication of correct reception, it is for arising; in the stage of heat, because of acting with faith in Dharma-nature, holding the conforming part, therefore it is like a seed. In the stage of the peak, because of the cessation of wrong views, where it grows, therefore it is like a field. Endowed with forbearance, because non-virtuous actions do not produce fruit, it is like a burning fire. Holding the supreme place of Dharma, because of being free from the grasped and the grasper, therefore abandoning non-virtuous actions of body etc., therefore it is like underground. Because of obtaining the perfect accomplishment of self and other benefits, therefore at the time of the first ground, it is like a wish-fulfilling jewel. In the stage of stainlessness etc., abandoning the precepts of adultery etc., because the perfect body etc. depends on desire, therefore it is like a wonderful vase. At the time of the ten grounds, because of accomplishing all actions, it is like an iron hook. At the time of Buddhahood, because of accomplishing all actions, it is like a stupa. With reverence for this, the fruit is not in vain, therefore it is like a stupa. Then, do the qualities of Dharma end here? No, it is only an example, the summary meaning is: In short, it is said, if divided in detail, it is infinite, that is, all the Dharmas of the Buddha etc. The collection of paths accomplished from it is all Dharmas. Strength etc. are qualities. Then, because of possessing all the qualities of the Buddha etc. without remainder, just by generating Bodhicitta, the fruit is accomplished, why strive for many kalpas? No, because the name of the fruit is established on the cause. As shown above with the metaphor of the seed, there is no contradiction, thus showing the reason of merit in the manner of dispelling wrong discriminations in front. Why is it so? Like this and so on. Now, showing the benefits of the two types of Bodhicitta with metaphors, for example, like this and so on, the fruit of the ripening of all-knowingness is shown with the metaphor of alchemy, dedication is not in vain.
