Those who possess faith and understanding are certain, meaning they will not regress. Those who have generated Bodhicitta are near, meaning they have drawn near. Those who have entered into practice should be regarded in the same way. Non-returners are also the same. Those who are one lifetime away from Buddhahood should be regarded as Buddhas. Some say that all are certain because they possess essence, and all are certain because they can attain it, as it is the object of their causal conditions. Generating Bodhicitta with lineage is near, as before. Accomplishing practice should also be regarded as Buddhahood, as before, some say. Some say that there are three benefits of prophecy: secretly prophesying and prophesying the generation of Bodhicitta are certain. Prophesying the speaker is near. Directly prophesying should be regarded as Buddhahood. The second benefit is that all faults are eliminated, hence it is said, "Transgressions," etc. Violating the precepts is a transgression because it is the cause of falling and the cause of obscuration. Obscuration is because it obstructs karma and the path. The remainder is regret, which is mental remorse. Alternatively, the cause is transgression, and the result is regret. Another explanation is that it is a transgression because of transgression, and it is regret because of obscuration. Karmic obscuration is the nature of karmic obscuration, that is, how karmic obscuration obscures karma. Alternatively, the very act of approaching creation is karmic obscuration. What is that? It is what is said in "Light Protector," to examine the types of sins. The branches of intention, etc., of these such as killing, etc., are as previously explained. To gather great faults and to show the benefits of emptiness. Among them, combining two of the five heinous crimes into one basis is killing one's father and killing a self-realized Buddha, because one killed one's father and killed an Arhat. Possessions are wealth, etc., because one stole from the three objects. Near is the mother Arhatni, mother refers to the unborn mother, because it is similar to the five heinous crimes. The remainder is easy to understand. Where are these? If they are combined into one, it is what is said, "If." Because they are held by one continuum, the fault is very great, it is said. That will also be destroyed, therefore it is said, "That also." How

If asked, how to eliminate it? The sutra says, "Cause" refers to having the ability to destroy and to counteract. How to counteract? Some say it refers to having four powers: the support, the ability to refute, restoration, and the antidote. Some say it refers to the cause being the inner proximate cause, and having complete control over the outer conditions, thereby repenting in conventional truth and practicing the antidote of emptiness. Some consider it to refer to the absence of inherent existence, because things born from causes and conditions are like unborn, therefore it is also said below that they cease as soon as they arise, which is to show non-abiding. Some consider it to be striving to completely abandon after realizing that actions are not wasted. Some consider that serving the five fires and so on are not causes, therefore their cause is contrary to them, contrary to clinging to reality and emptiness, therefore they will fall into questions such as "What to do?" Therefore, unmade is because there is no maker. Non-composite is because there is no aggregation of causes and conditions, that is, it arises and then disintegrates, therefore the former and the latter will not meet. If asked whether this contradicts direct perception, (the answer is) it is like the nature of illusion, if not examined, it will appear. Emptiness cannot find flaws in emptiness, therefore there is no affliction. Why can't flaws be found? Because it is naturally luminous and cannot be changed. Because it has no causes and conditions, it is pure from the beginning. If asked why all beings are not liberated, (the answer is) because faith and devotion are manifested. The supreme meaning of the self-arisen, cannot be realized without faith. Just like the outline of the sun is full of light, the blind cannot see it as it is. The scriptures say. Even though all dharmas are emptiness, why are those with faults not liberated? Because reasoning has been shown before, so there is no entity. How is there no entity? Because it arises and then disintegrates. How does it arise? The scriptures say it is "cause". How does it disintegrate? Because it does not depend on cause, it disintegrates as soon as it arises. How is the mind, so are the afflictions, therefore the scriptures say "any". If asked whether the afflictions are exhausted, will the fruits of karma still arise? (The answer is) the scriptures say "for those without obscurations", meaning that if the afflictions are exhausted, they will be liberated.
