It is said "No," meaning that all extremes are completely abandoned. Then, how does one become enlightened? This is a refutation without means, meaning "Then." The answer is that it is the realization that samsara and nirvana are of one taste, and not different. To show this, it is said, "That also." Conditioned phenomena are the conventional truth, which is samsara. Unconditioned phenomena are the ultimate truth, which is nirvana. Non-abiding is because conceptualization is exhausted, or because one realizes that the taste is the same, or because wisdom and compassion are empowered. To explain the reason for this, it is said, "Because there are no things," and so on. If there is no cause, then the result cannot be established, and then non-existence becomes the cause and result. If things are established through non-things, then contradiction will arise, because existence and non-existence are mutually exclusive. If things are established through non-things, then non-existence becomes the cause. If things are established through things, then is it simultaneous or different? If it is simultaneous, then cause and result are not reasonable, and if it is different, then there is no connection. Then, what is attainment and realization? This is a challenge to the result, meaning "Then." The answer is that the result is permanence, which is free from the extremes of elaboration, so not establishing elaboration there, it is said, "For what." No elaboration is the exhaustion of elaboration. Non-fabrication is the distinction of exhaustion, which is solely the nature of reality. The exhaustion of elaboration is the second distinction, the purity of realization. Then, what are the two extremes? They are "Is form permanent or impermanent," and so on. Now, thinking it is unreasonable, using the method to challenge the essence, if one abides only in emptiness, one will fall into the lower vehicle, the answer to this is "Like this," and so on, meaning do not become accustomed and manifest. Then, if one does not manifest, is there no difference in the result? The answer is "How is it reasonable," it is said. That is, unreasonableness is "cannot be grasped," and so on. For the nature of reality, it is intention itself, but in conventional truth, it is shown that there is realization, so it is said, "Of the noble ones," because the unconditioned cessation of nirvana is one. Thus, the method of profound meditation is taught, along with the accompanying
