My Shariputra and Maudgalyayana are like Bur. Bodhisattvas are like the heart. Ananda, if a Bodhisattva enters a chariot and enjoys playing and rejoicing with the five qualities of desire, and there is no one else to drive that chariot, Ananda, that Bodhisattva's chariot will also be placed on the head of the Tathagata. Even if the elders Shariputra and Maudgalyayana remain in the three doors of liberation for a kalpa or more than a kalpa, the Tathagata will not diligently serve and attend to them. From the chapter of "Light Protector": Light Protector is like this, for example, releasing the orb of the moon, no one ever prostrates to the form of a star. Light Protector, similarly, wise people also release the Bodhisattvas who have entered my teachings, and never prostrate to the Shravakas. Light Protector, for example, paying homage to the waxing moon is not like paying homage to the full moon. Light Protector, similarly, those who have great faith in me should pay homage to the Bodhisattvas, but not to the Tathagatas. Why is that? Because the Tathagatas are born from the Bodhisattvas. From the Tathagatas are born the Shravakas and all the Pratyekabuddhas. From the Sutra of "Meeting of Father and Son": Monks, the collection of qualities of the mind of enlightenment, which is endowed with all knowledge, even if the Tathagata were to speak of the qualities as numerous as the sands of the Ganges for as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges, it would still not be possible to speak of them completely. Why is that? Because when the Tathagata was previously practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, he never generated even a single thought that was not beneficial to all those sentient beings whom he had gathered as sentient beings. The realm of sentient beings is immeasurable, and as many as there are realms of sentient beings, when the Tathagata practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, that many collections of merit arise from each and every generation of the mind of enlightenment. Why is that? Monks, the realm of sentient beings is inexhaustible, and just as the realm of sentient beings is inexhaustible, so too is the conduct of the Tathagata Bodhisattva.

When practicing generosity and other actions, each instance of generating Bodhicitta produces an inexhaustible accumulation of merit. The Secret Sutra of the Tathagata also states: 'The collection of Bodhicitta of Bodhisattvas will not sever the lineage of the Three Jewels.' Furthermore, it originates from the same source: 'The merit of Bodhicitta, if it had a form, would fill the entire expanse of the sky, and it would still exceed it. All the accumulations of merit of all sentient beings, no matter how much is completely grasped, the Bodhicitta of Bodhisattvas far surpasses them.' It is also said in the sutra: 'Bodhisattvas should understand all phenomena from the mind of Bodhi. All phenomena are equal to the realm of Dharma, because they are merely knowable and are the emptiness of wisdom. All phenomena arise suddenly, are not permanent, and are not completely knowable. Sentient beings should also realize this Dharma nature. The Bodhicitta that Bodhisattvas generate is called the Bodhicitta of Bodhisattvas, which is the mind that benefits and brings happiness to all sentient beings, the unsurpassed mind, the mind moistened by love, the mind that is completely unwearied by compassion, the mind that is without regret with great joy, the mind that is without defilement with equanimity, the mind that is unchanging with emptiness, the mind that is without object with signlessness, the mind that is without dwelling with wishlessness.' It is said in the sutra that even the smallest root of virtue that is completely dedicated to omniscience will not be exhausted in the Bardo until it reaches the essence of Bodhi. The Sutra Taught by the Noble Inexhaustible Intellect states: 'Venerable Sharadvatiputra, for example, a single drop of water falling into the great ocean will not be exhausted or dried up until a great kalpa has passed. Similarly, the root of virtue that is completely dedicated to Bodhi will not be exhausted or disappear in the Bardo until it reaches the essence of Bodhi.' The Sutra of Skillful Means also states: 'Bodhisattvas skillful in means'

If one becomes extremely poor, even if he offers a handful of food, he should learn in this way: The Blessed One also said that the mind is vast, and giving is not the most important. Therefore, although the Dharma objects I offer are small, with the mind of omniscience, it will become infinite. It is also said in the Sutra of the Fortunate Aeon: When the Tathagata Star King became a cowherd, he offered butter tree leaves to the Tathagata Sound Manifestation, and first aroused the mind of Bodhi. When the Tathagata's fame spread far and wide, he offered a piece of cloth to the Tathagata Electric Lamp, and first aroused the mind of Bodhi. When the Tathagata Radiant became a beggar in the city, he offered a grass lamp to the Tathagata Infinite Light, and first aroused the mind of Bodhi. When the Tathagata Difficult to Tame became a carpenter, he offered a piece of wood to the Tathagata Fully Pressing Stable, and first aroused the mind of Bodhi. When the Tathagata Quality Banner became the owner of water offering, he offered a cup of water to the Tathagata Manjushri Name, and first aroused the mind of Bodhi. When the Tathagata Powerful Group became the Medicine King, he offered a single Amla fruit to the Tathagata Great Hand, and first aroused the mind of Bodhi. It is also said in the Sutra of the Jewel Heap: If someone desires the fruit of an Arhat, fills limitless worlds with precious jewels, and makes offerings, it is not as good as a Bodhisattva seeing a person of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, and rejoicing with a mind endowed with all-knowingness. The merit of this rejoicing is such that the previous accumulation of merit from giving cannot even approach one percent, and cannot even be compared. How does the offering of a Bodhisattva dedicated to all-knowingness surpass other offerings? It comes from the Prajnaparamita Sutra.
