Those Bodhisattvas who arise with faith from the ground are close to enlightenment. Manjushri reported: "World Honored One, after hearing this teaching on the Perfection of Wisdom, those Bodhisattvas who have faith in it will be regarded as Buddhas themselves." Faith in the profound Dharma can eliminate all downfalls and regrets, and can completely purify all karmic obscurations. As it says in the Sutra of the Tathagata-garbha: "Odsrung, for example, if one kills someone who is both a father and a Pratyekabuddha, that is the greatest of killings. For example, stealing the property of the Three Jewels is the greatest of taking what is not given. For example, having illicit sexual relations with someone who is both a mother and an Arhatni is the greatest of sexual misconduct. For example, slandering the Tathagata is the greatest of lies. For example, speaking ill of the Sangha of the Aryas is the greatest of slandering. For example, mocking the Aryas is the greatest of harsh speech. For example, distracting those who desire the Dharma is the greatest of idle talk. For example, preparing to commit the five heinous crimes is the greatest of harmful intent. For example, the mind that steals the gains of those who have entered the right path and those who have already entered is the greatest of covetousness. For example, being bound by views is the greatest of wrong views. Odsrung, all these paths of the ten non-virtuous actions are accompanied by great faults. Odsrung, if a sentient being possesses these paths of the ten non-virtuous actions, which are accompanied by great faults, but still enters the Dharma taught by the Tathagata, which is endowed with causes and conditions, then for this, there is no self, sentient being, life, or person who is the doer or the experiencer. Like this, without non-attention, without manifest action, without the illusory nature of Dharma, without all afflictions, entering all Dharmas that are naturally luminous, and having faith that all Dharmas are pure from the beginning,

I do not say that beings with faith will go to evil destinies. Why is that? Because the aggregates of afflictions are not real entities; all afflictions arise and then perish and cease. They arise from the interaction of assembled causes and conditions, and as soon as they arise, they cease. The cessation of the arising of mind is the cessation of all afflictions. Whoever has faith in this way has no downfall whatsoever, and there is no place for downfall, because it is not a place and there is no opportunity. It is said that for one without obscurations, the place where downfall dwells is not a place. Also, in the chapter on "Subduing the Demon," the one who upholds discipline, Near Attendant, asked: How does a wicked person become a bhikkhu who upholds discipline? The demon said: Venerable Near Attendant, when a bhikkhu knows that all dharmas are extremely tamed, and also knows the initial prior limit of faults in a solitary place, and also eliminates the regret of faults that have arisen, and does not make them firm, and for those, with what does he suppress the uninterrupted sins, for wrongly entering rituals and precepts, not to mention the minor details, like that kind of aspect of the Dharma, he can also closely practice, and is also skilled in subduing afflictions, and for sudden afflictions, he is also not completely defiled by afflictions, and is aware of arising, afflictions are neither taken inward nor taken outward, nor are they both absent, but knowing the true nature of afflictions is knowing non-affliction, and also does not abandon afflictions, nor does he cultivate non-affliction, and also knows that all afflictions are like clouds and rain clouds, scattered by the wind of wisdom and insight, so that there is no place to go and no place to stay, and afflictions are like the moon in water, showing the appearance of illusory conceptual images, and afflictions are the realm of darkness, which is obscured by the light of wisdom, and afflictions are like thieves, dakinis, yakshas, and rakshasas, if observed with proper attention, they are not abiding, and afflictions are opportunists, they increase with improper attention, and with the wisdom of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, one attends
