Because it is the ground. When I first saw the Tathagata Dipamkara, I obtained the forbearance of non-birth. Then I was prophesied, and then I completely transcended all actions. Then, as it is said, now the six perfections are complete. Bodhisattvas who do not have faith in the profound Dharma cannot completely accomplish the benefit of themselves and others. It comes from the "Moon Treasury Sutra". The ultimate truth is the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, which is not shared by all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Therefore, no matter what conventional truth is used, it is not possible to accomplish the supreme accumulation of the roots of virtue for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. The Moon Treasury is like this, for example, no spark can dry up the vast and deep ocean. The Moon Treasury is also like this, no matter what conventional truth is used, it cannot dry up one's own ocean of afflictions, let alone other sentient beings? So it is said. What is the profound Dharma? What is faith in the profound Dharma like? It comes from the Bodhisattva Pitaka. The arising of noble right view has two causes and two conditions. What are the two? They are the voice of others and proper attention. He thinks like this, what is the voice of others? What is proper attention? If one pays attention in that way, one will think like this: those yogis who have not heard these names of the Bodhisattva Pitaka, have not heard the noble Dharma Vinaya, and have found joy only by relying on samadhi, and have fallen into great pride due to the domination of pride, those people cannot be liberated from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil, and cannot be liberated from the heap of suffering. Considering this, the Tathagata said this: hearing the Dharma that is in accordance with others is liberation from old age and death. One should learn like this: the discipline of a Bodhisattva.

What is appropriate application? If one wonders how a Bodhisattva engages in appropriate application, then one should learn as follows: A Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not apply to any dharma, nor does he apply extremely. This so-called "appropriate application" is a euphemism for non-application. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva's appropriate application does not produce sound, nor does it produce repetitive sounds. One does not fixate on where the sound originates, but contemplates the past and future limits, asking where the sound itself comes from and where it ceases. Whatever is spoken, will be spoken, has been spoken, will have been spoken, is spoken for the sake of abandoning, is spoken for the sake of abandoning, will be spoken for the sake of abandoning, is spoken for the sake of comprehension, is spoken for the sake of comprehension, will be spoken for the sake of comprehension—if one seeks all of these completely, and does not perceive the aspect of the past, the aspect of the future, or the aspect of the present arising, that is its appropriate application, and one should learn it in that way. A Bodhisattva, having thus engaged in appropriate application, how does he see appropriately? One should learn as follows: When a Bodhisattva sees all dharmas as naturally ceased, at that time he sees appropriately. When he sees all dharmas as naturally pacified, at that time he sees appropriately. When he sees all dharmas as tranquil, at that time he sees appropriately. When he sees all dharmas as naturally entering into equanimity, at that time he sees appropriately. When he sees all dharmas as unborn, at that time he sees appropriately. When he sees all dharmas as unarisen, at that time he sees appropriately. When he sees all dharmas as truly unarisen, at that time he sees appropriately. When he sees all dharmas as having attained Nirvana, at that time he sees appropriately. Moreover, one also contemplates who sees that, and sees in such a way that one does not see or contemplate at all. Seeing in that way is called appropriate seeing. Again, one should learn as follows: Bo-

Rightly applying the bodhisattva's mind means having no doubt or delusion about any dharma. Rightly applying means having no obscuration to any dharma. Rightly applying means that there is no dharma that does not become a gateway to liberation. Rightly applying means that there is no dharma that is taught for the sake of abandonment. Rightly applying means that there is no effort to realize any dharma, because seeing all dharmas correctly and seeing them as they are is seeing correctly. What is seeing all dharmas as they are? For example, not seeing. What is called not seeing is a synonym for unborn. What is called unborn is a synonym for not truly arising. What is called not truly arising? That is a synonym for non-appearance. Considering that, the Thus-Gone One said that if one sees all conditioned phenomena as unborn, one will enter into the certainty of reality, for example, entering into the certainty of reality is seeing correctly. He thought to himself: Why is it called entering into the certainty of reality? He taught as follows: All dharmas are equal to what? They are equal to the Buddha's dharma, therefore it is called entering into the certainty of reality. The Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son also says: Great King, when this world becomes empty space, there is a time when the palace of Brahma, made of the seven precious substances, exists. Great King, when its solidity appears, it does not come from anywhere. Even when the palaces of the gods of Other-Controlled Emanation, made of the seven precious substances, appear, Great King, when its solidity appears, it does not come from anywhere. Even when the surrounding and the great surrounding mountains, made of diamond, solid and stable, and towering, exist, when their solidity appears, it does not come from anywhere. Mount Sumeru, king of mountains, and those who hold the yoke, and those who hold the circumference, and those who hold the plow handle, and those who hold the vajra, and those who have sandalwood, and those who bow in all directions, and Mount Horse-Ear, and those who are beautiful, and those who are beautiful
