Manifesting through the assembly of wisdom, diligently striving to seek the assembly of wisdom, and being arrogant with their form, enjoyment, retinue, and power of freedom, and harboring attachment, towards those Bodhisattvas who have renounced, appearing from within the household, diligently seeking the assembly of wisdom, with umbrellas and cold winds causing flesh and blood to dry up, necks becoming thin, bodies becoming weak, veins exposed, heads and clothes like burning flames, taking the umbrella as a sign and diligently practicing, towards those who are constantly diligent in seeking virtuous Dharma, if they know that their necks are thin and weak, their faces are ugly and unpleasant, they will feel contempt, thinking that they should not listen to their good words, because doing so will become even more inferior and foolish, this is what the World Honored One said about the arrogance and attachment of Bodhisattvas and the state of being fully in accordance with the iron hook of Mara. Moreover, from that same sutra: There are four dharmas that can sever the Great Vehicle, what are the four? That is, proclaiming one's own merits, slandering the merits of others, generating arrogance, and associating with anger. Because of these, even if one is a householder, if one can diligently practice the Dharma, it is difficult to obtain the true Dharma. So, how should a householder Bodhisattva practice? From the "Fierce Question Sutra": Layman, in addition, a householder Bodhisattva dwelling in the home, performs the deeds of a noble person, and does not perform the deeds of an evil person. Seeking enjoyment with Dharma, and not seeking with non-Dharma. Seeking with harmony, and not seeking with disharmony. Making a living in a righteous way, and not making a living in an evil way. With the enjoyment obtained through Dharma, not using it to support others. Cultivating the thought of impermanence, taking its essence more and more. For example, reverently serving parents, as well as sons, wives, servants, maids, hired workers, those who make a living by labor, with lawful enjoyment, as well as friends, guests, relatives, in-laws, etc., reverently making offerings, and focusing even more on the Dharma.

It is said that giving increases merit. So, what are the wrongdoings of householders? It comes from the Sutra of Cutting Off Renunciation. If one possesses four qualities, called a great one, then a householder becomes an unfree person, that is, in each and every life, they will become blind, foolish, mute, outcasts, and will never experience happiness. They will receive many slanders, become eunuchs, eaters of leftovers, eternal slaves, and women. They will become dogs, pigs, donkeys, mules, and poisonous snakes, and will not diligently practice the Buddha's teachings. What are the four? Called a great one, a householder obstructs the arising of the mind of manifestation, the mind of renunciation, and the mind of the noble path for sentient beings who have done deeds superior to the past Buddhas. This is the first. Furthermore, a householder dwells in a place of wealth, attached to wealth and children, not believing in the ripening of karma, and obstructs the renunciation of sons, daughters, wives, or relatives. This is the second. Furthermore, a householder abandons the sacred Dharma, and when hearing teachings they have not heard before, they do not believe and abandon them. This is the third. Furthermore, a householder is always full of annoyance and contention towards monks and Brahmins who possess morality. This is the fourth. If one possesses any of these four qualities, a householder becomes an unfree person, that is, from "in each and every life" to "will not diligently practice the Buddha's teachings" will occur. For example, if someone falls into a pit of impurity and says to others, "Alala, this water is so clear, it's amazing!" This is generating the perception of water where there is no water, just like perceiving it as clear water. Any sentient being who is drowning in the swamp of desire will also lead others into the swamp of desire. They have fallen into the cliff of attachment, the cliff of hatred, and the cliff of ignorance, and will also cause others to fall into them. For example, it is like someone seizing an enemy and putting them into a seven-cubit pit without flames or smoke. For whom
