Therefore, even for the sake of life, one should not abandon the precepts, and one should be wise in conduct. A Bodhisattva should have the strength of patience with an attitude of accepting harsh words. A Bodhisattva should be diligent by completely taking hold of the Buddha-field. A Bodhisattva should be single-minded by not being separated from the mind of enlightenment. A Bodhisattva should have steadfastness by abiding in practice. A Bodhisattva should be a worthy object of offering by not being separated from the mind of enlightenment, and so on. It is said in the Jewel Crest Sutra: A Bodhisattva who possesses four qualities is able to ripen sentient beings, namely, not being weary, not being attached to one's own happiness, encouraging them at all times, and fully understanding their minds. Again, four qualities: words that are pleasing, speaking pleasantly, a gentle demeanor, and having no angry expression. Again, four qualities: pure intention, no deceit, steadfast diligence, and enduring good and bad deeds. It is said in the Holy Jewel Heap Sutra: The discipline of vows keeps the mind of the Bodhisattva at peace. The discipline of gathering virtuous dharmas perfects the Buddhadharma. The discipline of benefiting sentient beings ripens sentient beings. Thus it is said in the sutra. In the Patience Sutra, asked by Kṣāntivādin: Sons or daughters of good families should rely on and cultivate the practice of patience. From if, while walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, someone comes holding a pot full of filth, a pot of poison, ashes, feces, or urine, and pours it on their head, or if their whole body feels pain, they should not generate thoughts of anger or resentment, nor should they say, "What fault do I have?" Similarly, it should be applied to whatever touch touches wherever. The body is harmed, or the mind is harmed. The body is like grass, trees, tiles, and images, because it has no discrimination and no consciousness, so it is neither me nor other. If the mind is harmed, then the mind has no color, no form, and arises and ceases in an instant.

Since it does not abide in any place, it is neither self nor other, from here onwards. I will surely experience the sins of the past, I think of the ripening of this suffering. Remembering the Four Noble Truths and correctly abandoning, the path of power and strength, the limbs of enlightenment. Since everything is based on patience, what wise person would not cultivate patience? Thus it is said. When the daughter Good Intelligence asked: Do not increase the root of harm, anger, abide in loving-kindness and desire the Dharma, thus, if the body of the Tathagata is made, it becomes beautiful and worthy of being looked upon. Thus it is said. From the Tenth Wheel of the Essence of Earth Sutra: Son of good family, the patience of a Bodhisattva is of two kinds, worldly and transcendent. Worldly patience is taking sentient beings as its object, relying on the ripening fruit, and relying on the path of merit. Transcendent patience is eliminating the four inversions and cultivating patience without attachment. If the three activities are purified, then this patience will be greatly harmed. All activities are completely pacified, all thoughts are completely abandoned, the mind is equal like the sky, then everything can be entrusted to this patience. Thus it is said. Diligence is also from the same source: The diligence of a Bodhisattva is of two kinds, worldly and transcendent. Among them, worldly diligence arises from generosity, arises from ethics, and arises from meditation. It is worldly diligence because it takes sentient beings as its object, is accompanied by close acceptance and rejection, and relies on the ripening fruit. Transcendent diligence is the diligence of a Bodhisattva's extreme effort, eliminating all afflictions, karma, and suffering for all sentient beings with an equal mind. Acting without an object, initiating the diligence of a non-abiding mind. Initiating diligence without abiding in the three realms. Diligence without discriminating the ripening fruit, diligence without abiding in gain and no gain. This is transcendent diligence. Thus it is said. Son
