Oh! Being happy with the Buddha at the time of sickness and death, and having servants do the giving without faith, is impure. Abandoning the poor and giving to the rich is impure. The maturation of those great sages is like planting seeds in a salty field; although it is not without maturation, it will not become fruit. It is said that if a great sage sows seeds in a field that has not been plowed or cleared of weeds, and then it rains, it will not become a flower or fruit that can grow. Similarly, there are five unsurpassed gifts: the Tathagata, the Sangha, the Dharma speaker, the sick, and the parents. It is said in the Tenth Wheel Sutra of Earth Treasury: When a wise person practices Dharma giving, he should teach the Dharma of the three vehicles according to the vessel, and not teach other vehicles to it. After hearing it, do not slander or defame it. When making offerings to Dharma speakers, one should generate respect for them as if they were Buddhas. In order to eliminate the diseases of all afflictions, one should listen to the medicine of the supreme Dharma. One should abandon profit and fame from afar, and teach and explain the supreme Dharma. It is said. It is said in the Auspicious Prophecy Sutra that if one possesses four qualities, then one can be deemed worthy of receiving teachings to teach the Dharma to others: having few desires, being content, having good and gentle conduct, and practicing the Dharma oneself. Also, it is said in the same sutra that these four are evil friends of Bodhisattvas: relying on them will increase unwholesome Dharma, teaching them inferior Dharma, causing them to lose interest in Bodhicitta, and causing virtuous deeds to decline. The Vinaya, the Sutra of the Collection of the True Dharma, says: World Honored One, what is that superior discipline of morality? A Bodhisattva, even if bound by the vows of individual liberation, does not think that he can be purified by individual liberation alone, but relies on the vows of the Bodhisattva. It is said in the Buddha Treasury Sutra: Shariputra, a monk who has broken his vows will cut off the flesh of his own body and give it to the benefactor for hundreds of thousands of trillions of kalpas. If he is reborn as a livestock, he will also carry heavy burdens. The number of hairs reaches millions.

If even a small piece of clothing cannot be melted, what need is there to mention clothing, food, bedding, medicine, and so on? From here, Shariputra, it is permissible to act according to my rituals in that land filled with pus and blood, but it is not permissible to dwell together with a bhikkhu who has broken his vows. Why is that? Because whatever is taken by the hand of a bhikkhu who has broken his vows becomes poison for a bhikkhu who upholds his vows. Thus it was said. In the Tenth Wheel of the Essence of Earth Sutra, it says: How is one a bhikkhu who is shameless and without embarrassment? For the sake of merely living, one goes forth into my teachings, and having gone forth, all the vows of individual liberation that one upholds are ruined, and being without shame or embarrassment, one does not fear the suffering of future lives, like a Kala worm filled with rot and filth in its belly, behaving like a dog towards the sound of a conch shell, always speaking falsely and having no truthful words, being seized by stinginess, jealousy, ignorance, and pride, being far from the three supreme deeds, being attached to gain, respect, and fame, being fond of the six objects, and having one's mind distracted by desire, this is called a bhikkhu who is shameless and without embarrassment. Thus it was said. Also, in the Lion's Roar of Maitreya, it says: These four go like an arrow shot into hell: being jealous of the gains of others, proclaiming the faults of discipline after hearing the Sutras that possess vows, not concealing faults out of pride even when transgressing the Buddha's words and precepts, and knowingly enjoying offerings given in faith. Thus it appears. In the Tenth Wheel of the Essence of Earth Sutra, it says: The pure vows of a Bodhisattva are of two kinds: common and uncommon. The common ones are the vows of a lay devotee, or the vows of individual liberation of one who has gone forth, having received full ordination. The uncommon ones are guarding the vows with a mind of equality towards all sentient beings, a mind of harmlessness, and a mind without resentment. One guards without regard to all maturation of existence. Thus it was said. In the Samadhi of Gathering All Merits Sutra, it says: A Bodhisattva should become more powerful by giving away limbs and oneself. A Bodhisattva
