The Collected Compendium of the Stages of Meditation. The Collected Compendium of the Stages of Meditation. The Collected Compendium of the Stages of Meditation is present. The Collected Compendium of the Stages of Meditation. I prostrate to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Difficult to find leisure and endowment, rely on a spiritual friend. Remember the teacher, meditate on impermanence. In renunciation and the bliss of the noble ones, My irreversible wheel, The words of the three wheels completely purified. These eight are the general summary. The difficulty of finding the basis of leisure and endowment is as stated in the Sutra Requested by Jewel Crown: It is extremely difficult to be born as a human with leisure and endowment. It is extremely difficult to see a guide. It is also difficult to hear the Dharma of peace. It is also extremely difficult to have morality and faith. Thus it is said. Also in the Sutra Requested by the Son of Gods, Sagacious Intellect: Completely abandoning all eight unfree states, It is difficult to find and obtain the perfection of leisure and endowment. It is difficult for Buddhas to arise and remain for a long time, Likewise, it is difficult to obtain faith in the teachings. Because it is difficult to find the state of being human, Strive well in the teachings of the victorious ones. Do not dwell clinging to sounds, Having heard the Dharma, always be diligent. Rely on whatever spiritual friend teaches the Dharma, Do not rely on sinful friends even once. Thus it is said. Also in the Nirvana Sutra: Monks, having separated from the eight unfree states, Having obtained the difficult to obtain human body, if you meet me, do not waste it meaninglessly. Therefore, you should not be careless. Monks, consider how to adorn the city with the genuine jewel of Dharma, with morality, concentration, and wisdom as walls, like moats and neighbors. After you encounter the city of the jewel of the Buddha's Dharma, it is not appropriate to accept what is untrue and illusory. For example, if merchants go to the island of genuine jewels, they take back tiles and stones to their homes, similarly, you go to the island of jewels, but take illusory things. Monks, do not generate a mind content with a shrinking thought. Although you have gone forth, you should not be devoted to the Great Vehicle. Monks,

Although wearing robes of changed color, the mind has not become attached to the true Dharma of the Great Vehicle. Although monks wander everywhere for alms, they have not tasted the food of the Great Vehicle. Although monks have shaved their hair and beards, they have not eliminated the defilements of the true Dharma. Therefore, you should strive to destroy all defilements with a brave and steadfast mind. Relying on a virtuous friend is from the Nirvana Sutra: Relying on a virtuous friend is the path. By relying on a virtuous friend, discipline will become completely pure, and one will generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. In that very sutra, it says that a virtuous friend is one who causes the abandonment of the ten non-virtuous actions and the practice of the ten virtuous actions. Therefore, one is called a virtuous friend. One who teaches the true Dharma as it is and practices as it is taught. How is it done? For example, one does not kill and teaches others not to kill. One diligently practices right view and causes others to diligently practice right view. That is called a true virtuous friend. One diligently strives for enlightenment and encourages others to do so. One cultivates faith, discipline, generosity, extensive learning, and wisdom, and encourages others to cultivate these. A virtuous friend is for the sake of practicing virtuous Dharma. What is virtuous Dharma? For example, whatever one does, one does not apply it to one's own happiness, but always applies it to the happiness of sentient beings. Even when seeing the faults of others, one does not speak ill of them, but always speaks only of virtuous Dharma. From the Cloud of Jewels Sutra, it is thought that relying on the Lama increases virtuous Dharma and decreases evil. Whether the Khenpo is learned or unlearned, whether he knows or does not know, whether he has discipline or does not have discipline, one should generate the perception of the Teacher towards him. Just as one rejoices and has faith in the Teacher, one should also do towards the Khenpo. From the Mother of the Buddhas Sutra, son of lineage, you towards evil friends...
