From "Joy arises from the fiercely burning prison," I wandered for a long time in the wilderness of samsara. Because I did not know the road and the place, I found a guide, and thus joy arose. I have become close to the all-knowing one, and thus joy arises," and so on. Furthermore, one abides in equanimity when possessing ten dharmas, namely: eye consciousness abides in equanimity towards forms; it is not changed by forms, it is not harmed by forms, it is not wounded by forms, and so on, up to dharmas. One abides in equanimity towards the suffering of formations, the suffering of suffering, and the suffering of change, and so forth. From the Nirvana Sutra, it is said: "Whoever generates a mind of compassion towards all sentient beings, that is called a noble lineage, and will obtain immeasurable merit." Thus it is said. Regarding the mind of enlightenment, the Avatamsaka Sutra says: "Noble sons, among the sentient beings of the world, those who aspire to unexcelled, perfect enlightenment are rare. Even rarer than that are those who enter into unexcelled, perfect enlightenment, and who, in this way of diligence, completely gather the Buddha's teachings; who, with such strong faith, completely seek the bodhisattva path; who, in this way of diligence, completely purify the bodhisattva's conduct; who diligently attend to the instructions of virtuous friends; who do not seek profit, respect, and fame; who, in this way, do not contradict the bodhisattva's intention; who, without regard for family, possessions, and the pleasures of desire, seek the companions of the bodhisattva; and who, without regard for body and life, generate faith in the all-knowing one—such sentient beings are extremely rare." Thus it is said. The Nirvana Sutra also says: "The Buddha-nature is called great faith. Why is that? Because through faith, the great bodhisattvas will completely perfect the perfection of generosity, up to the perfection of wisdom." Thus it is said. Great secret skillful means

Sa. To benefit all sentient beings, I generate the aspiration for enlightenment. Thus it is. Also from the Lion's Request: By what Dharma is the collection of all Dharmas obtained? Wherever and wherever one is born, the Bodhisattva obtains joy. The Blessed One said: For the sake of liberating all sentient beings, directing the mind towards enlightenment, that one obtains the collection of all Dharmas, that one will also obtain joy. Thus it appears. From the Maitreya's Request: Maitreya, if a Bodhisattva possesses one Dharma, he abandons all bad destinies, does not fall into the hands of evil friends, and quickly realizes enlightenment. What is that one Dharma? It is this: the Bodhicitta with excellent superior intention. Thus it is said. From the Sutra of the Samadhi that Gathers All Merits: What Dharma makes one obtain the Samadhi that Gathers All Merits? One Dharma: not abandoning the mind of all-knowingness. Thus it appears. In that same text, the Blessed One, for the sake of Bodhisattvas obtaining the Samadhi that Gathers All Merits, please explain the Samadhi that Gathers All Merits. Then the Blessed One said: Son of No Craving, any great Bodhisattva who has generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, there is no Samadhi that has not completely gathered all merits. Why is that? Because all things that are objects of merit are included in and follow after the generation of the mind for enlightenment. Son of No Craving, whatever is an object of merit, from that which arises from giving up to all the merits of the world and beyond the world, are included in and follow after the mind of enlightenment. Therefore, one who desires to completely take all merits should generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Thus it appears. Also in the Noble Arrayed Tree Sutra: Son of lineage, the mind of enlightenment is like the seed of all the Buddha's Dharmas. And so on, it is extensively taught. Again, in that same text: Even if for as many eons as there are sentient beings, one were to speak well.
