Those bound by ropes should choose and seek fields for giving. In order to pacify the suffering of others, such as hunger and thirst, if one gives without considering the vessel, one will realize the equality of Dharma. As it is said in the sutras: There is one Dharma by which a Bodhisattva quickly manifests and attains complete and perfect enlightenment, and that is to have an equal and balanced mind towards all sentient beings, without discrimination. If one thinks that the Three Jewels are the field of my merit, but not animals and so on, then that Bodhisattva will not realize the equality of Dharma-nature. Therefore, the Three Jewels and the Lama are good fields for giving, but not animals and so on, like planting seeds in a salty field, if one thinks like that, it will not become the Dharma of a Bodhisattva, so it is said. Therefore, for Bodhisattvas who have firm higher intention and whose compassion is constantly moistened, one should not choose the field of giving, thus it is said, blazing with the fire of wisdom. The teacher, the noble Nagarjuna, also spoke of the verses that make sentient beings happy when they are rescued from the salty river. It is also said in other Mahayana sutras. King Indrabuti said: For all embodied beings, one should generate a mind of equality. If any inequality exists, then the wisdom that is liberated from beginning, middle, and end will not arise. So it is said. For those who are dull-witted, beginners, new learners, whose minds are not tamed, who have not practiced compassion, and who have little compassion, one should choose the field. It is said in the sutras, tantras, and extensive teachings, and so on. If a beginner does not abide in equality, then all actions should be taken with mindfulness and awareness. Even ordinary people and those who belong to the mundane should not live together. One should also abandon joking words. One should always give offerings to the pretas. One should read and recite the Prajnaparamita. Until one has attained direct perception, one should not teach the Dharma. Abiding in emptiness, not abandoning sentient beings, acting as one has spoken, and having the blessings of the Sugata. One should have such qualities. Even in the state of mind in a dream, one should

Do not be separated. All immediate actions should be done as stated in the Noble Jewel Cloud Sutra. By all means, make others happy. Be of few desires, content, peaceful, and gentle. Subdue the eight worldly concerns. Make the ten virtues powerful. Be unattached to all things and have little attachment. Make all dharmas equal and become the antidote to afflictions and near afflictions. If you see others suffering, if they are ordained, give them what they need for life. If they are householders, give without attachment to possessions. My body and possessions, and the virtues born in the three times, for the enjoyment of all sentient beings, give without poverty. Lama Jetsun Awadhutipa said: Examine your own faults like sharp eyes, examine the faults of others like a blind person. Be upright, without arrogance, and always meditate on emptiness. Exchange self and others, with compassion as the direct and indirect cause. Because sentient beings are more precious than oneself. It is said that Lama Naropa said this. Bodhisattvas must cherish others more than themselves, so exchange self and others. Loving-kindness and compassion, bodhicitta, are the essence of tantra. Among the fourteen root downfalls, it is said: "Abandoning loving-kindness towards sentient beings is the fourth, as the Victorious Ones have said. Bodhicitta is the root of the Dharma, abandoning it is the fifth." Thus it is said. Do not slander others, do not create the conditions for others to do evil, go a hundred yojanas away. An ordained bodhisattva, from a place where there is strife, should go beyond a hundred yojanas. If he does not go, the bodhisattva will fall. Thus it is said. Practice the six perfections as much as possible. Remember the thirteen dharmas of the path of accumulation, the seven riches of the noble ones, the six recollections, the four ways of gathering disciples, and the sixteen discriminations of noble beings. In particular, remember the eight discriminations of bodhisattvas. The Noble Nagarjuna spoke of the seven faults of samsara, and the Noble Asanga spoke of the seven impermanent faults of samsara.
