If emptiness were a means, then Buddhahood itself would not be attained. Because from a cause, an effect different from the cause does not arise. Therefore, the means is not emptiness itself. So it is said. Then why is it said in the scriptures that meditating on emptiness alone is sufficient? This is to show the greatness of emptiness, because clinging to self and so on are contrary to emptiness. Thus, in the same Noble Vajra Net Tantra it is said: Those who are lost from various views, and those who seek the view of self, in order to avert the clinging to self, the Buddhas have taught emptiness. Therefore, the mandala is called a wheel, it is the vow of bliss of means. With the yoga of Buddha's pride, Buddhahood will not change for long. Thus it is said, one should not rely on emptiness alone, but should meditate on the deity's form. So it is said. Therefore, in order to fully awaken, one should meditate on emptiness with the essence of compassion, not just emptiness alone. The scriptures have a hidden meaning, such as how offering a mandala is said to obtain the six perfections. Therefore, one should not take the scriptures literally. However, when the practice of emptiness is perfected, all virtuous deeds arise from their own nature. First, having entered emptiness for the sake of sentient beings, one will not turn to peace like the Hearers. The more stable emptiness is, the more compassion arises for those sentient beings who have not realized it. As the Noble Nāgārjuna has said: Thus, when yogis meditate on this emptiness, their minds will delight in benefiting others, there is no doubt that they will change. Furthermore: The wise in the selflessness of phenomena, having become accustomed to no-self-nature, without exception abandon the afflictive obscurations that arise from perversion. As it is said in the Ornament of the Middle Way, one will abandon afflictions through reasoning. For those who have neither abandoned compassion nor pacified afflictions, worldly and transcendental qualities will be accomplished without effort. Therefore, considering that emptiness becomes the main cause, and that many qualities arise from it alone, the Blessed Vairochana perfectly awakened

Arising from that. (Because) those who cling to characteristics, with characteristics (of the Dharma), the Buddhas approve of supreme accomplishment. By abiding in the absence of characteristics, even the characteristics can be accomplished. Therefore, in all circumstances, one should rely on the absence of characteristics. As it is said, and so on, it is said that emptiness alone is sufficient. This is the limb to be connected. Thus, one who possesses the eight limbs should make the dwelling agreeable, the food and conduct agreeable, and the clothing and friends agreeable, and the mind should abide equally. Among them, the agreeable dwelling is, as stated in the Sutra Requested by the Noble Strong Arm: Self-born Buddhas and Sugatas, and where the previous Buddhas resided, where is a place that is blessed and joyful, gods and demigods and others pay homage and make offerings, possessing the vows of purification, one should rely on it to purify oneself. If such a place is not found, there are also rivers and great rivers, and places with flowing water, lakes adorned with lotuses and utpalas, where people do not travel much, where there is plenty of clear and sweet water, where unpleasant spirits do not dwell, where there are clean flowers and fruits, where various herbs and trees are spread, where the ground is very clean, where there are no tigers, leopards, lions, etc., where it is pleasant, flat, and without thorns, it is proclaimed as a place of human accomplishment. Abandon anthills, ant cities, dust, hair combs, bedding, charcoal, stove doors, and gatherings, and then dig the ground and build a dwelling, warm and stable, and plastered with mud. Open the door to the east, north, or west, but never open the door to the south. Thus it is said, this is an agreeable dwelling. Food should also be without attachment, in moderation, and in accordance with the strength of the body. Therefore, in the presence of the Noble Nagarjuna, it is said: Food should be used like medicine with reason, without greed or hatred, not for filling the belly, nor for pride, not for lubrication, but only for maintaining the body. Thus it is said. The fault of being attached is, as it is said: As stated in the Sutra Requested by the Noble Kashyapa: Clinging to delicious tastes, all faults
