Therefore, the appearance of perfect wisdom will be extended far and wide. If it is not a loss of memory, nor foolishness, then how can one be able to be without memory and without attention without truly distinguishing at that time? It cannot be said, "Clearly remembering yet not remembering, clearly seeing yet not seeing." If one becomes accustomed to being without memory and without attention, how will one develop the recollection of past lives and the like, and the Dharma of the Buddha and the like? Because of contradiction, just as when seeking coolness, which is contrary to warmth, the sensation of touching warmth does not arise. Furthermore, if a yogi who has entered into samadhi has a mental consciousness, then at that time, it must inevitably focus on something, because the consciousness of ordinary beings does not suddenly become without an object. If it does not exist, then how can one realize the selflessness of all phenomena at that time? With what antidote will one abandon afflictions? It is impossible to stop the mind of an ordinary being who has not attained the fourth dhyana. Therefore, the absence of memory and attention that occurs in the sacred Dharma should be regarded as preceded by perfect discrimination. Because only perfect discrimination can bring about the absence of memory and attention, and not otherwise. For example, when a yogi investigates with perfect wisdom, if he does not see any phenomena arising in the three times in ultimate truth, then how can there be memory and attention at that time? In ultimate truth, because there are no three times, there is no experience, so how can one remember and pay attention? Therefore, it is entering into non-conceptual wisdom through the pacification of all elaborations. By entering into that, one will realize emptiness. By realizing that, one will abandon all nets of evil views. By relying on wisdom endowed with skillful means, one will be truly skilled in conventional and ultimate truths. Therefore, in order to obtain unobstructed wisdom, one will obtain all the Buddha's teachings. Therefore, one must truly discriminate.
