Because there is no other form of existence. Therefore, one should contemplate in this way: the "I" and "mine" of the world are merely illusions. As for the selflessness of phenomena, one should also practice in this way: phenomena, in short, are the five aggregates, the twelve sources, and the eighteen elements. Among these, the aggregates, sources, elements, and whatever is corporeal, from the ultimate point of view, are not separate from the appearance of the mind. If they are broken down into atoms, and each part of the atoms is analyzed, it will be found that their essence cannot be definitively grasped. Therefore, from beginningless time, due to clinging to unreal forms and so on, just as forms and so on appear in a dream, for children, the mind itself appears as forms and so on that are separate from the external world. But in reality, forms and so on are not separate from the appearance of the mind. One should contemplate in this way. Therefore, he thinks in this way, the three realms are only mind. He thinks in this way, all analysis of phenomena is only mind. Having realized this, When analyzing separately, it is analyzing the nature of all phenomena separately. Therefore, one should analyze the nature of the mind separately. He contemplates in this way: From the ultimate point of view, the mind cannot be true either. When the false nature, that is, the mind that holds the appearances of forms and so on, appears in various forms, how can it be true? Just as forms and so on are false, so too the mind is not separate from them, and therefore is also false. Just as forms and so on are various forms, not one nor many, so too the mind is not separate from them, and therefore is neither one nor many. Therefore, the mind is just like the nature of illusion and so on. Just as the mind is, so too all phenomena are just like the nature of illusion and so on. He contemplates in this way. Therefore, if one analyzes the nature of the mind separately with wisdom, from the ultimate point of view, the mind cannot be found within, nor can it be found without, nor can it be found in between. The past mind cannot be found either, nor the future

The past is also unattainable, and the present arising is also unattainable. When the mind arises, it does not come from anywhere; when it ceases, it does not go anywhere. The mind is ungraspable, unfixed, and immaterial. What is the nature of that which is unfixed, ungraspable, and immaterial? It is as stated in the holy *Ratnakuta Sutra*: "O Light-protector, the mind cannot be found even if it is sought everywhere." That which is not found is unattainable. That which is unattainable is neither past, nor future, nor present arising. The sutra extensively explains this. Therefore, if one examines in that way, the beginning of the mind cannot be truly seen, nor can the end be truly seen, nor can the middle be truly seen. Just as the mind has no edge or center, so too are all phenomena understood to be without edge or center. Therefore, having understood in that way that the mind has no edge or center, the very nature of the mind is unattainable. All the discriminations of the mind are also understood as emptiness. Having understood that, the nature fabricated by the mind, the nature of form and so on, cannot be truly seen. Therefore, since the nature of all phenomena is not truly seen with wisdom in that way, one does not think whether form is permanent or impermanent, empty or not empty, contaminated or uncontaminated, arising or not arising, existent or nonexistent. Just as one does not discriminate about form, so too one does not discriminate about feeling, perception, mental formation, and consciousness. If the characteristic of a phenomenon does not exist, then its distinctions cannot exist either, so how could one discriminate about it? Therefore, having discriminated in that way with wisdom, at the time of any object, if the yogi does not definitively grasp the nature of any object as ultimately true, then at that time he enters into non-discriminating samadhi. He also understands that the very nature of all phenomena is without nature, without nature. Whoever, having examined the nature of objects individually with wisdom, does not meditate, but only meditates on completely abandoning mental activity, then his discrimination will never
