Granted. This practice of yoga, because it abandons all discriminations about things and so forth, therefore abandons the root of the obscuration of afflictions, which is the very nature of ignorance, which is the perverted view of things and so forth. Therefore, by cutting the root, one completely abandons the root of the obscuration of afflictions. As it is said in the Noble Teaching on the Two Truths: "Mañjuśrī, how are afflictions subdued? How are afflictions completely understood?" Mañjuśrī said: "In the ultimate sense, with respect to all phenomena that are utterly unborn, unarisen, and without substance, in the conventional sense, it is the non-veridical perversion. From that non-veridical perversion come complete imputation and discrimination. From complete imputation and discrimination comes improper attention. From improper attention comes the imputation of self. From the imputation of self arise all views. From the arising of all views come afflictions. Son of the gods, whatever is the complete understanding that in the ultimate sense all phenomena are utterly unborn, unarisen, and without substance, that is the non-perversion in the ultimate sense. Whatever is non-perversion in the ultimate sense does not conceptualize, does not discriminate. Whatever does not conceptualize and does not discriminate is engaged in the proper way. Whatever is engaged in the proper way will not impute self. Whatever does not impute self will not give rise to all views, and even the arising of all views up to the view of nirvāṇa in the ultimate sense will not occur. Therefore, one should see that the afflictions of one who abides in the unborn state in that way are utterly subdued; that is called subduing afflictions. Son of the gods, when afflictions are completely understood by the wisdom of non-appearance as utterly empty, utterly without characteristics, and utterly without substance in the ultimate sense, at that time, son of the gods, afflictions are completely understood. Son of the gods, for example, one who completely understands the nature of poisonous snakes pacifies the poison of that poisonous snake. Son of the gods, likewise, one who completely understands afflictions will have their afflictions completely pacified.

The son of the gods said: Manjushri, what are the kinds of afflictions? Manjushri said: Son of the gods, in terms of ultimate truth, whatever pervasive conceptualization there is regarding all phenomena that are not truly born, have not arisen, and have no entity, that is the kind of afflictions, as extensively explained in the scriptures. Because it is inverted in terms of entities and so on, it pervades all inversions. If it is abandoned, all inversions will be abandoned, therefore, it will also truly abandon the obscuration of knowledge, because the obscuration is the nature of inversion. When the obscuration of knowledge is abandoned, because there is no obstruction, just as the light of the sun, free from clouds, appears unobstructed in the sky, the light of wisdom will arise. Thus, if it is said that discriminating consciousness is the realization of the nature of entities, then even if the entity is present, it will not be clear because there is obstruction. If there is no obstruction, then having obtained inconceivable differences of power, why would all entities not be clearly manifested as they are? Therefore, by knowing all entities as they are in the manner of conventional and ultimate truth, one obtains omniscience. Therefore, this itself is the best path for abandoning obscurations and attaining omniscience. The path of the Hearers and so on does not abandon all inversions, therefore, the two obscurations are not well abandoned. Thus, it is also stated in the noble *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*: Others, seeing that all phenomena depend on conditions, become slaves of nirvāṇa, because they have not seen the selflessness of phenomena, therefore, those great wise ones have no liberation. Great wise one, those with the lineage of realizing the Hearer's vehicle, will have the thought of emergence for what is not emergence. Great wise one, one should strive to reverse this from wrong views. Thus it is said in the scriptures. Therefore, there is no other path to attain liberation, so the Bhagavan said that there is only one vehicle. The teaching of the path of the Hearers and so on is only taught with the intention of guiding, just as using a child to take out a child. Like this
