It has been clearly recognized that (through practice) one can perfect everything and attain supreme enlightenment. It is also stated in the Prajnaparamita Sutra: If one generates the mind for the sake of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I will not obstruct the root of virtue of those beings. Similarly, in the Samadhiraja Sutra, it is said: All these beings will become Buddhas. Here, there is no sentient being who is not a vessel. Because these defilements are only adventitious, and the nature of mind is inherently luminous, it is reasonable to explain that all beings have the potential to become Buddhas. Similarly, the Bhagavan said in the sutras: All sentient beings possess the essence of the Tathagata. This fully demonstrates that all beings are capable of realizing the state of unsurpassed enlightenment. The noble Maitreya also said in the Uttaratantra of the Mahayana: Although there is no difference in all beings, the thusness is pure. Because of that, the Tathagata, all beings have the essence of that. And so on. The term 'Tathagata' also signifies the Dharmadhatu, characterized by the absence of self in both persons and phenomena, and its nature is luminous. Furthermore, the so-called 'yana' refers to the path that leads to the city of Nirvana, and also refers to Nirvana itself. Therefore, it is called 'beings' and 'going there.' Liberation is attained only through understanding suchness, and not through other means. That suchness is also only one. Even if views differ, it is impossible to regard that suchness as multiple, because that would be too extreme. Therefore, the wisdom that has suchness as its object is also only of one nature. In reality, the wisdom of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who truly understand suchness is that which has suchness as its object, and is the antidote to completely eliminate all ignorance. Partial knowledge cannot realize suchness, because that would be too extreme; if that were the case, everything would become suchness.

May it be transformed! Therefore, the wisdom that directly realizes the suchness of selflessness of persons and phenomena is the very path that leads to the attainment of nirvana, and not another. Therefore, there is only one vehicle. Its abbreviated detailed classification is as stated in the Sutra of the Descent into Lanka: The five dharmas, self-nature, the eight consciousnesses, and the two selflessnesses, completely encompass all of the Mahayana. So it is. Among these, the five dharmas are name, cause, conceptualization, suchness, and correct wisdom. Among these, name, cause, and conceptualization are spoken of in the extensive teaching of conventional truth. In the teaching of ultimate truth, suchness and correct wisdom are explained by way of the real and the imputed. The three self-natures are the completely imputed, the other-powered, and the thoroughly established. The eight consciousnesses are the all-ground consciousness, the afflicted mind, and the six consciousnesses such as the eye consciousness. The two selflessnesses are the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena. Among these, the completely imputed and the other-powered, and the eight consciousnesses that are spoken of, are from the teaching of conventional truth. The thoroughly established self-nature and the two selflessnesses that are spoken of are from the statement of ultimate truth. In the sutra on entering the two truths, it is also taught that since the root of all afflictions is the manifest clinging to things as real, therefore only by meditating on all phenomena as being without reality can the afflictions be abandoned, and not by any other path. As it is said: Manjushri, how will the afflictions be subdued? How will they be completely understood? Manjushri said: In the ultimate sense, all phenomena are unborn and unarisen and without substance, and whatever is not present in the conventional sense is inverted, and from that comes conceptualization and discrimination in the conventional sense. From that comes inappropriate attention. From that comes imputation of self. From that comes the entanglement of views. From that the afflictions arise. Son of the gods, whoever understands all phenomena in a way that does not know that they are unborn and unarisen in the ultimate sense, that understanding is not inverted in the ultimate sense.
