It does not go beyond the nature of negation. For the same reason, in order not to abandon other distinctions in the listener's intention, terms such as mindlessness and emptiness are undifferentiated; in order to abandon other distinctions, terms such as the naturelessness of consciousness and emptiness are differentiated terms. In terms of ultimate truth, phenomena, consciousness, and the nature of phenomena, emptiness, etc., because of their lack of self-nature, there is no difference or non-difference. It is said: For those who examine the ultimate truth, it is not reasonable to establish it in this way, and the meaning of the words of conventional truth denies this nature and otherness. It is also said: Because there is no self-nature to be negated, it is not a distinction of difference. Therefore, just as the whiteness of the moon and so on, the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, together with the conventional, cannot be spoken of as one and other, and this is the characteristic of the ultimate truth. Because it is only possible to distinguish between thatness and otherness in things, the general characteristic of ultimate truth is that the nature of things does not exist, so it is only impossible to say thatness and otherness. Even if things exist, the distinction between thatness and otherness will arise, but if things have no self-nature, it is impossible to do so, and this is without contradiction. The nature of ultimate wisdom is also only considered to be the same as the nature of suchness, together with the conventional. As it is said in the Perfection of Wisdom: Subhuti, the conventional of the world is also different, and the ultimate is not different, what is the suchness of the world is the suchness of the ultimate. The ultimate of the nature of wisdom is no different from illusion and so on, so it is also the nature of true conventionality, and because it is in accordance with the realization of that nature, it is also the nature of ultimate truth, so relying on the difference, it is not contradictory for one thing to have the nature of both. Therefore, the establishment of phenomena and entities as different is only a name, so in the ultimate truth, the generation of mind and so on should not exist in a differentiated way.

But it is not without differences either. As it is said in the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis of the Noble Ones: "O sons of the Victorious Ones, like this, these three realms are only mind." That which is shown in other sutras with elaboration, because it shows the absence of self-nature, should not be taken as the ultimate truth, but merely shown as mind-only, this is solely for the purpose of gradually entering the ocean by way of the ultimate truth. Thus, for those who cannot realize the absence of self-nature in all phenomena at once, they rely on mind-only for a while, and gradually enter into the absence of self-nature of external objects. For that very reason it is said: "Thus, for those who view, the grasped and the grasper will cease." After that, gradually discriminating the nature of mind-only, then that too will be understood as self-nature, and one will enter into the profound way. In conventional truth, external objects also exist like consciousness. Otherwise, it would contradict the Noble Ten Bhumi Sutra, which states that on the eighth bhumi, Bodhisattvas fully know the number of atoms belonging to the world realm, and so on. As it is said: "They also know well the minuteness of the atoms themselves, and also know well their becoming great, immeasurable, and differentiated. They also know well how many earth atoms there are in the world realm. Similarly, they also know well the water element, the fire element, and the wind element." It is extensively explained. It also contradicts fame, because external objects are also famous like consciousness. If analyzed by reason, both are non-existent as entities because they cannot withstand scrutiny. In conventional truth, both entities are known like cows between cowherds. The result of saying mind-only is to refute the agent and the enjoyer who are completely imputed by others, because even in conventional terms, other than mind, other agents and so on are not established. Or, since mind precedes all phenomena, it is for the purpose of establishing mind as the main thing in relation to all phenomena. As it is said: "There is no real thing, it is only mind." And similarly: "The mind disturbed by habituation."
