Thus it is. Therefore, the twenty-two bodhicittas are only conventional, with distinctions. Thus, knowing distinction, specialty, quality, and dharma are not different meanings, and having distinction, having specialty, having quality, and having dharma are said to be not different meanings. When, for the sake of holding one's own characteristic, the term 'dharma' refers to the 'dharmī', at that time, that dharma is termed 'dharmatā', and the establishment of the meaning of the term arises solely from convention. The meaning of the term is establishment and refutation. These are also understood simultaneously from the term expressing establishment, just as from the term 'white lotus' one understands having a hundred petals, being white, and being stainless. The knowledge arising from the term is the self-nature devoid of imputation, having an object of its own essence. Therefore, for meaningless objects such as genus, the object of the desired meaning that appears does not exist; it is only the elimination of others. If it is said that an object does not become an object, then the object without an object is the object of elimination. Here, the object is also an object-possessor, but from the pride of appearance, this object is the meaning itself. Even if it is an object-possessor of meaning, it is not with all self-natures, but rather the nature of the boundary of a single negation. Whatever part of the object that is the self-nature separate from dissimilar genera is the object of the activity of discrimination; that is the meaning of the term. It is said: "What is the nature of the undetermined by the determined? How can that be its object?" Thus. Therefore, in order for other terms to enter, the self-nature of individually eliminating dissimilar genera is the part of the object, which is the meaning of the term. Because of its existence and because there is nothing else apart from it, all names of affirmation and negation are solely its cause. Why? Because negation is not refutation, but the self-nature of elimination. Therefore, without it, there is nothing. Therefore, refutation is understood, and the term also expresses that, solely expressing negation. In any case, with the term that refutes, the aspect of imputation is eliminated, and what should be established is also expressed. Non-affirming negation is self-nature, without any essence, not abandoning the nature of non-object. Thus, affirmation also expresses the nature of affirmation, but it negates from others.
