These are also those belonging to one's own continuum, for those who have not been prophesied, and for virtuous deeds arising from faith, hearing, and thinking, etc. Also, for the individual cessations and the non-individual cessations. The cessation of unconsciousness is the intention that precedes the thought of definite departure from desire for the virtuous, but not from desire for the higher realms, which prevents the mind and mental phenomena from arising. The cessation of feeling and perception is the intention that precedes the thought of peaceful abiding, free from desire for the realm of nothingness, which prevents the mind and mental phenomena from arising. The unconscious realm is the result of the cessation of unconsciousness, which prevents the mind and mental phenomena from arising in those born as gods in the realm of unconscious beings. The life force is the life of the three realms. Similarity is being the same as sentient beings and being similar to sentient beings, which is the cause of sentient beings appearing to be of the same meaning. Birth is the manifestation of the aggregates. Aging is the complete ripening of the aggregates. Abiding is the non-destruction of things that have arisen. Impermanence is the destruction of things that have arisen. The collection of names is this distinction of words and names. The collection of words is this complete collection of letters. The collection of letters is the letters themselves. Not assembled is when causes and conditions are not complete. Assembled is when there is no lack of causes and conditions. In the Abhidharma-samuccaya of the Mahayana, what is said to be an ordinary being? It is included in the non-attainment of the noble dharmas. Similarly, what is quick? It is when cause and effect arise quickly. What is sequence? It is when cause and effect do not arise simultaneously. What is time? It is when cause and effect arise continuously, that is, when this exists, that exists. What has already arisen and ceased is called past time. What has not arisen is future time. What has arisen and ceased is called present time. What is place? It is where cause and effect exist in the ten directions, where cause and effect are

The ten pervasive factors are designated as places. What are the numbers? They are the individual differences of the aggregates, because in the absence of a single nature and without distinction, numbers such as two and three do not arise. Similarly, with attainment and so on, these are also established as different negations from abandoning other distinctions, but they are not the very nature of it, as has been well studied in the Mahayana and the Pramanavarttika, etc. Therefore, the aggregates that are present are only non-substantial. The corresponding aggregates are mainly of two types: those to be abandoned and those to be adopted. Among them, those to be abandoned are the ten afflictions. Among these, there are those that are not fully subdued, unwholesome, the root of unwholesomeness, neutral, the root of neutrality, pervasive, bondage, near afflictions, pervasive entanglement, outflows, rivers, connections, close grasping, knots, and obscurations, as has been stated. Afflictions that are the cause of afflictions, as well as unwholesome and neutral thoughts, etc., should also be abandoned as much as possible. The truth of suffering and the truth of origin, as well as conventional knowledge with outflows, should also be abandoned. Therefore, if all these afflictions are abandoned, they will abandon afflictions, and thus only the abandonment of afflictions will lead to separate discernment. The remaining mental factors are to be adopted, and thus the aggregate of formations has been discussed. What is consciousness? It is that which apprehends objects, completely decides, and distinguishes and understands. For example, jewels follow the traces of colors placed nearby, and similarly, consciousness, which is arising near with the aspect of an object, completely decides the object. The mere aspect of the object is not consciousness, because it would then become merely the consciousness of the object. Consciousness is also not outside the aspect of meaning, because it would then become without the aspect of meaning. The aspect that abides in consciousness is designated as an external object, and the external object also
