The discipline endowed with qualities is for the sake of liberating sentient beings from the bondage of existence. Therefore, the noble ones praise this discipline. Samadhi is also accomplished, because from having discipline, the mind can be calmed. Therefore, one should rely on such discipline. As the noble hero said: Whoever restrains body, speech, and mind, This is said to be the concise discipline. Those who abide in this, for the benefit of beings, Their intention is special, and accompanied by results. Thus it is said. Patience is to endure, ultimately it is the pacification of conceptualization. The very nature of patience, it is said in the scriptures, is to endure with wisdom. Therefore, one should regard the world as a dream, and strive to pacify conceptualization. Diligence is joy in virtuous actions. Even if the entire earth were to be made into charcoal, or filled with weapons and trampled underfoot, In order to see the Sage or the peaceful Dharma, in order to drink the essence, one is extremely joyful. Meditation is the single-pointedness of mind on the object to be apprehended, and this only arises from the solitude of body and mind. As the noble Moon Lamp said: Those who have abandoned desire like fire, Having abandoned attachment to sons and wives, Having definitely left home out of extreme fear, It is not difficult for them to attain this supreme enlightenment. Those who, while dwelling in the home, Attain this supreme and pure enlightenment, There has never been any Buddha in the past, Nor will there be any Buddha in the future who does so. Having abandoned royal power like the ashes of spit, Desiring solitude, dwelling in the forest, Having completely abandoned afflictions, having conquered the armies of Mara, Realizing the stainless, unconditioned enlightenment. Thus it is said. Again, Having abandoned those who delight in towns and cities, Like a rhinoceros always wandering alone, Having always relied on the solitary forest, Before long, one will attain supreme samadhi. Thus it is said. Again, Worldly happiness is not always blissful, For whom there is no affection or aversion here, Whoever delights in forests and caves, He will experience extremely pure bliss. Whoever has no clinging to self here, Whoever has nothing to protect anywhere

In this world, acting like a rhinoceros, They will go like the wind in the sky. Those who are deeply involved in returning again, Children are always delighted in sensual pleasures. Just as vultures are greedy for corpses, They are always controlled and will not be liberated. So it is said. In the Sutra of the Holy Country Lord, it is also said: Having abandoned the house filled with endless faults, those whose minds are without attachment, Those who have attained the joy of dwelling in certainty and are endowed with qualities, their senses are subdued. They are not associated with men and women, Those whose minds are pure and without defilement dwell alone like a rhinoceros. They are not happy with gain, nor are they discouraged by not gaining. Those who have few desires and hate evil deeds have abandoned ostentation and pretense. So it is said. Furthermore, by improper conduct, they will be born into poor families. Having renounced, in this teaching, they will be satisfied with mere gain. They will not even accumulate sins, let alone the realization of wisdom. Having abandoned the qualities of the Buddha, they will claim to be ascetics. As long as there is concern for body and life, I do not say that one can fully seek the Dharma. For those foolish beings, do not slander the six teachers as they are. They speak one way and act another, deceiving others. For them, the happiness of gods and humans in this world is far away, let alone enlightenment. So it is said. In the Holy Jewel Heap Sutra, O Sun of Light, just as a precious jewel becomes useless and despised if it falls into an impure place, O Sun of Light, likewise, one should see that those who have heard much fall into the impurity of gain and respect. The gods and humans are not pleased with those who have nothing at all. Furthermore: Those who go only for their own benefit, Like animals, are afflicted by disturbing emotions. Those who accomplish the benefit of others, who are fortunate, They are great beings. If one can endure the sufferings of cold and wind, etc., even when thinking of one's own benefit, How can those who have entered for the benefit of others Not endure them? The sufferings of hell are also like that.
