If the various situations mentioned are the same, then which of the two has stronger karmic power? Dependence. If the doer of merit has become detached from desire through the worldly path, then because of the complete dedication of the virtue arising from his meditation, dependence has a greater power and perfection. If both have detached from desire from the desire realm, and the various situations mentioned immediately are also the same, then whose karmic power is stronger? Doing it often. If one has correctly become accustomed to it again and again, or repeatedly analyzes it, then that is it. The other is not, because it is practiced only once. If the fields, objects, attention, thought, and other complete holdings, dependence, and doing it often are the same for both, then whose karmic power is stronger? From many people. Because he himself has done it and also caused others to do it, therefore generating merit in many continuums. Know that the powerful action is the distinction of generosity. The merit arising from generosity has already been spoken of. Next, what arises from ethics is to be spoken of, that is, turning away from faults with nature is called ethics. Its fruit is obtaining heaven, and Indra himself and Brahma himself and so on are perfect objects of self, because it is the cause of accomplishment. Generosity also perfects for the sake of heaven, but the main thing is ethics. Ethics is also for the sake of great enjoyment, but the main thing is generosity. Ethics is also for the sake of being separated from the cause of attainment, but the main thing is meditation. How is the fruit of ethics liberation? One who possesses ethics accomplishes aspirations, because it is said that it is also from the complete purity of ethics. Furthermore, complete purity is the ethics of the assembly that obtains liberation. For example, to counter the approach of conceptualization, one must guard the doors of the senses. To counter the approach of unsuitable dependence, one must know the measure of food. Controlling the measure means completely abandoning inferior and excessive food.
