The name "Extreme Joy" means contentment of mind, peace of mind, and the arising of joy in the mind. There are also nine aspects: the initial extreme joy is for all the Buddhas; the extreme joy of joy is because of the joy and satisfaction with the object of focus; the supreme joy of ascending is because of being able to witness the difference in the realization of one's own nature; the supreme joy of satisfaction is because of the growth of following one's own body and mind; the supreme joy of waves is because of being pervaded by following one's own body and mind; the supreme joy of delight is from approaching enlightenment; the supreme joy of non-disturbance is because, in order to fully mature one's own continuum, there is no disturbance at the time of settling related discussions; the supreme joy of harmlessness is because, in order to fully mature others, at the time of gathering sentient beings, it is due to compassion and delight; the supreme joy of non-anger is because, at the time of returning from that (evil deed), it is due to patience. The Bodhisattva who abides in this ground of extreme joy will manifest the ten great aspirations and the great efforts among the ten grounds spoken of by the Noble Ones. For example: In order to make offerings and serve all the Buddhas, with all kinds of excellent qualities, complete, vast, and pure intention, as vast as the Dharma realm, reaching the edge of the space realm, exhausting the future, in countless kalpas and countless Buddhas appearing in the world, constantly and continuously for the sake of great offerings and service, the first great aspiration is manifested. Similarly, in order to truly uphold the Dharma spoken by all the Tathagatas, in order to completely uphold the enlightenment of all the Buddhas, in order to completely protect the teachings of all the perfectly enlightened Buddhas, is the second great aspiration. Similarly, in all the immeasurable worlds without exception, starting from first residing in the Tushita Palace, transferring and descending, residing in the womb, being born, playing as a youth, residing in the inner palace, renouncing, practicing austerities.

And to truly go to the essence of enlightenment, to subdue the maras, to manifestly and completely awaken, to supplicate, and to turn the great wheel of Dharma, and to pass into great nirvana, this is the third. Likewise, all the conduct of the bodhisattvas is perfectly gathered by the perfections, for the sake of perfectly practicing all the bhumis, and the limbs and near limbs, and for the sake of manifestly accomplishing the generation of the mind of enlightenment, which is taught by the supreme giving of the instructions and subsequent teachings of the path, this is the fourth. Likewise, for the sake of completely maturing all the realms of sentient beings, which are perfectly gathered by the realms, the beings, the birthplaces, and the names and forms belonging to the classes, and for the sake of grasping the Buddhadharma, and for the sake of completely severing all the enumerated beings, and for the sake of placing them in the omniscient wisdom, this is the fifth. Likewise, for the sake of comprehending with wisdom and making manifest all the extremely vast, great, immeasurable, subtle, coarse, searchable, without upper or lower covering, with a level foundation, possessing an entrance, like an illusion, and the divisions of all the immeasurable ten directions, this is the sixth. Likewise, for the sake of purifying all the Buddhafields, making all the Buddhafields equal to one field, and one field equal to all the fields, and for the sake of separately adorning the immeasurable Buddhafields with light and the ornaments of arrangement, and for the sake of possessing the path of complete purity by eliminating all defilements, and for the sake of completely filling the source of immeasurable wisdom of sentient beings, and for the sake of truly engaging in the vast realm of the Buddhas, and for the sake of truly showing and satisfying the thoughts of all sentient beings, this is the seventh. Likewise, for the sake of the equality of the thoughts and actions of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and for the sake of accumulating incomparable roots of virtue, and for the sake of always and continuously associating with and not separating from all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and for the sake of showing how the Buddhas appear as desired, and for the sake of the Thusness by the generation of one's own mind.
