The qualities of the grounds, etc., should be known by the diligent ones in the sutras, along with their increase. Thus, after a Bodhisattva is well-taken care of by an excellent spiritual friend, having well accumulated roots of virtue, perfected the accumulations, and relied on great compassion, in order to completely protect all beings, and in order to obtain the omniscient wisdom of all kinds, and in order to turn the great wheel of Dharma, one generates the fifth mind, reaching the ultimate end of the realm of Dharma, the boundary of the realm of space, and the ultimate end of the later limit. That generation of mind is like a great treasure endowed with the perfection of generosity, because it satisfies immeasurable beings with material enjoyments, and because it is inexhaustible. As soon as it is born, the Bodhisattva transcends all ordinary beings, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas. One will enter the faultless path of the Bodhisattva. One will be born into the lineage of the Tathagatas. From the intermediate state, like butter being extracted from milk, one will be certain of the path of seeing as long as it lasts. This "having the companions of complete enlightenment" refers to the path of seeing, which is the first ground. Therefore, only the uncontaminated wisdom held by the compassion of the Bodhisattvas, etc., is divided like rain, and the name of the ground is obtained, because it is the basis of qualities. Moreover, from higher to higher, one obtains the number and power of excellent qualities, and from the increase of the perfections such as generosity, and the difference of the most excellent ripening, the Joyful Ground, the Stainless Ground, the Luminous Ground, the Blazing Ground, the Difficult to Conquer Ground, the Manifest Ground, the Far-Reaching Ground, the Immovable Ground, the Good Intelligence Ground, the Cloud of Dharma Ground, and the Universal Light Ground are established in eleven ways. The differences caused by the excellence of the nature of this ground are neither to be spoken of nor to be heard. As it is said in the "Noble Ten Grounds Sutra": That which is beyond the paths of thought and mind, is known by the Victorious One who manifests wisdom. Aggregates

It is not divided by realms and places, it is not realized by mind, it is not thought by mind. Just as the traces of birds in the sky, the wise cannot speak of, cannot approach to see. Thus, the sons of the Victorious One, all the grounds, cannot be spoken of, how much less can they be heard. Thus it is said. The footprints of a bird flying in the sky cannot be spoken of, nor can they be seen, because the direction of the sky is not of a nature that can be divided like those footprints. It is not that they are not distinguished and established there. Likewise, the abodes of the collections of names, sentences, and letters, like the footprints of birds, the grounds of the noble Bodhisattvas and the self-awakened ones, those held by the wisdom of realization, cannot be spoken of nor can they be heard, because they are not of the nature of their sounds. However, it is not that they do not distinguish and establish conventionalities there. There, like the stage of the womb, the ten stages of the Bodhisattvas' grounds should be known. Because these grounds are of a nature that possesses obscurations. Like the stage of birth is the stage of Buddhahood, because it holds the complete fruit and individually experiences the objects of all that is knowable. The established is like individually experiencing the objects of all the senses of the body. There, the ten stages of the womb are: the stage of the body of the embryo, the stage of the gelatinous body, the stage of the hard body, the stage of strength, the stage of the body that conforms to the body, the stage of the body that conforms to the nature, the stage of the body that is accompanied by karma, and the stage of the complete body, which also has three aspects: the completeness of the senses, the completeness of the signs, and the completeness of the measure. These and the grounds such as the Joyful One should be approximated by means of dharma in common. Because here, at first, the Bodhisattva is joyful because of obtaining the supramundane path that accomplishes the benefit of oneself and others, therefore this Joyful One is the first ground. Also, Joyful
