In the paths of seeing and familiarization, which Bodhisattvas abide? They are the retinues that do not regress. Thus it is said. Arising for the sake of regression is regression. Since it is not like that, it is said to be non-regression, and not being suitable for regression, the meaning is the same. Those Bodhisattvas are also called great Bodhisattvas, because there are nine kinds of greatness. With great diligence, in order to protect all sentient beings, they truly enter the great position, the great position being the Mahayana. With a great cause, the Dharma of the Mahayana, such as the Prajnaparamita, arises in sequence through hearing, thinking, and meditating, etc. With a great object of focus, they attain equality of self and others for all sentient beings, possessing great love and so forth in harmony. With great time, they enter into all times as if it were a single instant, thus abandoning all distinctions of kalpas and non-kalpas. With great desirelessness, merely by abandoning all attachments, they will certainly subdue all demons, as stated in the Ocean of Wisdom Sutra: When a Bodhisattva does not seek meaning in all attachments, at that time they will be able to subdue the demons who seek meaning separately. With great attention, they abandon the long-standing attention to the Hinayana. With great proximity, in order to approach the joy and happiness of the essence of the Dharma of the Mahayana. With great purity, the three karmas are completely purified, thus completely liberated from all fears, because there is no cause for fear such as the lower realms, such as the breaking of vows, etc. There are five kinds of fears, namely: the fear of having no livelihood, the fear of having no fame, the fear of death, the fear of the lower realms, and the fear of unease caused by retinues. With great realization, they attain the eighth bhumi, having been prophesied to be omniscient.

It becomes the sole practice, so that other Bodhisattvas may attain the path that has been practiced. They also say: Like hammered gold, like a blooming lotus, like a hungry person listening, like eating delicious food, like understanding a letter well, like opening a treasure box, thus, by explaining the Dharma here, it also generates great joy. Understanding this meaning, the nature of the qualities of enlightenment, etc., is to be cultivated, to be distinguished, to be contemplated, to be inconceivable, and to be completely accomplished, these five aspects. It should be known that these five metaphors are extensively explained in the Ornament of the Sutras. Among them, those who possess a lineage, the wisdom arising from hearing the Great Vehicle, etc., gradually eliminate all inversions. Relying on taking refuge in the Three Jewels, understanding that the extraordinary qualities such as the direct perception of abandoning obscurations are the cause of enjoying the wealth of the noble ones, cultivating the seventh mind, etc., the nature of the Dharma of generating the mind of cultivation between the stage of aspiring conduct is, like gold, it generates great joy. In the Joyful Land, in the land of pure superior intention, the excellent arising of being separated from the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the path is manifested and distinguished, and the nature of suchness is like a blooming lotus. Thus, in the six grounds of dwelling with diligence and without characteristics, such as being immaculate, the power of the two accumulations to be contemplated is like delicious food. In the three grounds of dwelling spontaneously and without characteristics, such as the Immovable Ground, the complete maturation of past actions is inconceivable, like understanding a letter well. In the Buddha Land, it is also the completely accomplished nature of enlightenment, the immaculate from all obscurations, obtaining omniscience, like opening a treasure box, truly showing the nature of the Buddha. The Dharmas realized by the Bodhisattvas have been definitively shown in various aspects, that is, the nature of the Perfection of Wisdom.

Now there is one kind. Two kinds are distinguished by the difference between the mundane and the supramundane, and by the difference between cause and effect. Likewise, there are also three kinds for the sake of the three states of Suchness, namely, in the state of ordinary beings, it is called the impure Tathagatagarbha. In the ten Bodhisattva grounds, beginning with the Joyful Ground, it is both pure and impure, because great afflictions and so on can exist as appropriate. Again, the Bodhisattva grounds are of two kinds: up to the seventh ground, they are impure because they are mindful with effort. The Immovable Ground and so on are pure and impure. In the Tathagata Ground, it is pure. There are also four kinds, which are taught through the gateway of realizing the Great Vehicle Uttaratantra, namely, in the Joyful Ground, it is the Bodhisattva who first generates the mind of enlightenment. In the six grounds, beginning with the Immaculate Ground, because they practice unblemished conduct, they are engaged in practice. In the Immovable Ground, they are irreversible. In the Cloud of Dharma Ground, they are separated by one lifetime, that is, in the Buddha Ground, they are separated by only one final lifetime. For those who generate the supramundane mind, it is the first generation of the mind, because the initial realization is the main thing, so it is said to be reversed, but here practice is not impossible. Therefore, the noble Assembly of Liberation says: In the Ground of Adhimukti-caryābhūmi, one first correctly enters the Great Vehicle. In the seven grounds, beginning with the Joyful Ground, one is engaged in practice. In the three grounds, beginning with the Immovable Ground, one is irreversible. In the tenth ground, one is separated by one lifetime, namely, the Bodhisattvas. Here, the first kind is the entering ground and the accomplishment of accumulation. In the Ornament of the Sutras, the generation of the mind of the Bodhisattvas is of four kinds, namely, in the Ground of Adhimukti-caryābhūmi, it arises from delighting in practice. In the seven grounds, one is the completely purified superior intention. In the eighth ground and so on, one is the Vipāka. In the Buddha Ground, one is without obscurations, thus it is realized. In the noble Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra, Mind-Only, without appearance, and so on.
