Having realized that this is also happiness. Rather than thinking a little and not giving, it is better to vow to fall into the preta realm and not give, and even if one falls into hell, what need is there to say that one should not vow to attain the supreme meaning for all beings and practice? As it is said in the Sutra of the Holy Dharma of Mindfulness. In order to completely protect all beings, a Bodhisattva who has taken the vow with compassion, for himself or others: benefit and happiness, give to others or oneself, even suffering should be given if it is beneficial, and happiness should be given if it is not beneficial. Benefit is the happiness that matures later, because there is no affliction and no fault. Happiness is the subsequent feeling. These two should be done for oneself and others, because these completely include all the benefits of oneself and others. Suffering is the feeling of oppression, if its benefit later becomes happiness, like beneficial food, it is not unbeneficial. Happiness should also not be done, because whatever is unbeneficial will later mature into suffering, like unbeneficial food, because it is related to affliction and fault, so it is not beneficial. This is a brief summary of this matter for the time being. So, what is the downfall in this? How many kinds are there? Downfall is a great transgression. There are only two categories of downfall: if one excessively practices the four parajikas, one will lose the precepts and no longer be a Bodhisattva; and the sins that are completely included in the downfall, which will be related to the downfall. Here, too, some downfalls need to be confessed to others, and some need to be restrained by oneself. These downfalls also have the causes of transgression, as mentioned in the Bodhisattva Pitaka and so on. Then, in the Compendium of Trainings, it is said that the son of a noble family, the king, the royal family who has been crowned from the head, has five root downfalls, which will dry up all the previously done roots of virtue, are the cause of defeat, will cause all the happiness of gods and humans to fall, and will surely fall into the evil realms, and so on. And the first practitioner, the Great Vehicle

Furthermore, for sons and daughters of good families who abide correctly, the root downfalls are eight. Which eight faults cause the previously accumulated roots of virtue to dry up, causing one to fall from the bliss of gods, humans, and the Great Vehicle, becoming the cause of going to the lower realms? And so on. In the Sutra of Skillful Means, the root downfalls are also taught, where "Son of good family, Bodhisattva," etc., are extensively explained and then summarized as: Stealing the property of the Three Jewels, Is considered a root downfall. Abandoning the supreme Dharma, The Able One said this is the second. For a monk who has broken his vows, Taking away his robes and beating him, Causing him to be imprisoned or disrobed, And also committing the five inexpiable sins, Or holding wrong views, And destroying the Sangha, etc., The Victorious One said these are root downfalls. For sentient beings who have not been tamed, Speaking of the meaning of emptiness, Causing those who have entered the state of Buddhahood, To turn back from perfect enlightenment. Forcing others to abandon individual liberation, And causing them to practice the Great Vehicle, For those attached to the Lesser Vehicle, etc., Holding that it is not for the sake of abandonment, And causing others to hold this way as well, Speaking of one's own qualities, And slandering others, With respect, offerings, and fame as the cause, Saying "I can endure the profound Dharma," And speaking false words. Cutting off practitioners with punishment, Cutting off the giving of the Three Refuges, And cutting off giving and receiving, Causing people to abandon calm abiding, And the enjoyment of correct application, Not giving to those who recite scriptures. Completely abandoning the mind of enlightenment, With attachment and unbearable miserliness, Not giving to those who beg. For those sentient beings who Effortlessly rejoice, Being unable to endure, Angrily beating sentient beings. Following others with afflictions, Teaching what appears to be similar to the true Dharma. In the Bodhisattva Pitaka, there are only four root downfalls. As it is said in the Twenty Verses on the Bodhisattva Vows: Whatever is aroused by fierce afflictions, That destroys the vows, This is the four downfalls.
