Things that are not cause and effect are not understood as the nature of what should be approached and accepted; even if it is an effect, it is not understood as conventional truth. Because the basis of conventional truth is only conventional truth, only the Madhyamikas see it with its basis. Where is it enough to speak? Thus, knowledge with and without images is unbearable to analyze, and there is no other image, so this existence in conventional truth comes from the power of reason. The argument is: whatever dharma is characterized by that which is not truly pervasive, that is not truly existent. For example, permanence is a dharma characterized by pervasion of the nature of the single power that is not truly existent. Consciousness, too, is a dharma characterized by pervasion of the nature of that which is not truly existent, with and without images, which is called the imperceptible pervader. This is not established, because it is already abandoned, and it exists on the similar side, so it is not contradictory either. Because there is no other image, it is the nature of what is to be pervaded and what pervades. If what pervades does not exist, then it is unreasonable for what is to be pervaded to exist, so uncertainty is also eliminated far away. Therefore, whatever is established by this pervader should be acknowledged by the wise. If the external object is refuted, and the consciousness established by the Yogacara is also like that, then, in order to refute that it is also real, how do the Madhyamikas view that reality? Neither existent nor nonexistent, nor both existent and nonexistent, Not the nature of both. That which is free from the four extremes, Is what the Madhyamikas realize. The four extremes, that is, that reality which is free from the four images, is the reasoning by which the Madhyamika's arguments are practiced. Like this, not existent, not the nature of existent, because it is unreasonable for both knowledge and the knowable to exist. Not nonexistent, not even nonexistent in conventional truth, because conventional truth cannot be denied. Nor is it the nature of both existent and nonexistent, because existent and nonexistent are contradictory. Nor is it the nature of neither of the two apart from existent and nonexistent, because it is unreasonable not to eliminate the nature that has changed from the two apart. So, what is that reality?

If it is said that it becomes "not," it is like this: Is it not only emptiness by means of existence and non-existence, etc.? Thus, the Blessed One also said: Existence and non-existence are both extremes, purity and impurity are also extremes, therefore, having abandoned both extremes, the wise do not abide even in the middle. This is what the youth Mālyaka said. To this, the practitioners of yoga, relying on the consciousness that sees meaning, those who speak of the Madhyamaka, also consider it to be non-existent. What is said is also to be refuted, because by what is expressed this beautiful Madhyamaka, it is not that everything is non-existent, because they do not consider it to be non-existence. For a while, by all faults, the place of arising is eliminated. Thus it is said. If it is said that non-existence is considered by preventing existence, it is not, because non-existence precedes existence. If that is not established, then that is also not established. Non-existence is accompanied by existence, existence is accompanied by non-existence, therefore, it is not said to be non-existence, nor is it thought to be existence. This is what the Blessed One said. Furthermore, if things are only non-existent, then how did the Blessed One say that they exist? To what is said, we must also say, if things are only existent, then how did the Blessed One say that they are without self-nature? Then, what is that only one here? Only selflessness is the ultimate truth, and especially emptiness is also indicated by the protector as that only one in other sutras. Even if that is the conventional truth, there is no contradiction. Those who speak of emptiness are not intolerant of the existence of things in the conventional truth. Therefore, in order to eliminate that the existence shown is in accordance with the ultimate truth of emptiness, it should not be shown. If everything is the ultimate truth, then it is unreasonable to show emptiness, so it will definitely harm it. Therefore, showing emptiness, other showings cannot harm, so it is definitive meaning, it is valid, and other showings are contradictory, so it is not valid. Furthermore, if showing all dharmas as emptiness is possessed of not being deceived by valid cognition, then for it, can others with the nature of contradicting it eliminate it?
