In Tibetan: Explanation of the Treatise Differentiating the Doctrines of the Sugata. Homage to the noble Manjushri Kumara! Possessing qualities that constantly arise and continuously increase, Abandoning faults and possessing a flawless and beautiful body, Possessing the light of speech that dispels ignorance, like an unprecedented moon, To the Lord of Speech, I always bow with my head. To the lotus feet of the Sage King, The distinctions of those who rely on them, Even those of lesser intelligence may fully understand, Therefore, I shall explain. Here, although there are many distinctions of Buddhist schools, such as the Vaibhashika, the inhabitants of the Lower Lands, etc., The main ones are the Kashmir Vaibhashika, the Sautrantika, the Yogachara, and the Madhyamika. The author of the treatise, wishing to guide those who consider these four Buddhist tenets as supreme, Explains and establishes them accordingly: Space and cessation, The three unconditioned are permanent. The Kashmiris say that things are divided into two

not examined separately. Thus it is said. These three unconditioned phenomena are the opposite of conditioned phenomena, because they are separated from arising and ceasing, so they are permanent. They are not like other general characteristics and so on. Other than these three, all conditioned phenomena that are the nature of the five aggregates are momentary. All phenomena that arise from the aggregation of causes and conditions are momentary, because they only exist for the moment of arising. Conditioned phenomena such as form are seen to fall into the category of destruction. By what nature does it ultimately perish? Because they only exist at the moment of arising, they perish here at the very moment of arising. Therefore, it is clear that this is momentary. It cannot be said that the nature of arising is different and the end is also different, because if the natures are not different, then they will be equally non-different; if the natures are different, then they will be equally different. If it is said that what remains for a while and then disappears is the nature produced by their own causes, then, just as it is the nature of that moment of arising, so it is the same in the end. Therefore, it will remain only for that period of time, and because it is again like that, it will never remain. Therefore, if there are two moments of existence, then just like the first moment, the second moment also exists for two moments. Therefore, it will exist in another moment, and because it is also like that there, it will never perish. If it is thought that things are only constantly born from their own causes, and that they will not ultimately become other natures, but are destroyed by the force of obstruction, then this is not correct. In this way, if the force of obstruction is near, but it is still the same as before, not a nature that has the nature of destruction, then, in that case, it will not perish either. If it does not have the nature of destruction, but it can cause destruction, then it will not perish. To say that it has destruction is like saying that Devadatta is alive, but will die, which is possible.

English
It is not. If it is subject to destruction, how can it be of an indestructible nature? If it is subject to death, then it is not of a nature that is not subject to death. If you say that when an obstruction is near, it gives rise to the nature of destruction, then does the nature of not being subject to destruction from before follow after it? Or does it not? If you say that it does, then it is neither subject to destruction nor not subject to destruction, and therefore, it falls into a state of suffering that is difficult to overcome. If you say that it does not, then since it is not different from it, the previous thing also does not exist, so on what does it give rise to the nature of destruction? After that, if it is not the nature of destruction, then nothing should be subject to destruction, and also, destruction is seen, therefore, form and so on arise from their own causes only as the nature of destruction, and merely arising is destruction. Even so, momentary destruction is established. The argument is that whatever is of the nature of destruction at any time, then it does not exist immediately at that time, just like the nature of being in the last moment. Form and so on are also of the nature of destruction at the time of arising, which is called the reason of nature. If things are destroyed in an instant, then how is it that one recognizes "This is that"? Because the continuity is similar and other and other arise, and because it is related to ignorance. At the very moment of momentary destruction, another moment similar to it will arise, because it has no different appearance and is not separated by the absence of things, and for those who are deluded by ignorance, even though they are different, there arises a conceptualization that clings to them as not different, thinking "This is that." Just as one sees the knowledge that "This is that" even for hair and nails that grow back from the head, which are very different, how could it not be possible here? So, how could these conditioned things be blessed by me as others wish? Those people say that there is another real thing called self, which is different from the body and so on, which is the agent of good and non-good deeds, which experiences the results of those deeds, and which has the nature of awareness and pervasiveness. Although it pervades various things,
