If the other does not cling to things, then I myself am simply without consciousness. Because I have consciousness, I am said to be conscious. Like a barren woman, being without consciousness, it is not appropriate to be the nature of consciousness. This constant consciousness is also considered a sentient being, therefore it will never be without consciousness. Even so, the eyes and other senses would become meaningless, but we neither see nor think that these are meaningless. These meaningful things themselves eliminate the object of perception being constant. The reasoning is: if something is able to apprehend something without something else, then it does not depend on that thing when apprehending. For example, when a cat apprehends a mouse, it does not depend on light. According to others, the thinker is able to apprehend forms and so on without eyes and so on, which is a fallacy of apprehending a universal contradiction. But this is not the case, because the refutation is: if something depends on something when apprehending something, then it is not able to apprehend that thing without that thing. For example, an object in the eye depends on a lamp when it is apprehended. The thinker also depends on the eyes and so on when apprehending forms and so on, which is an apprehension that is universally contradictory. Someone thinks that it is not desirable to apprehend forms and so on without approaching the senses, because mere apprehension is always concomitant. As I said: Even if the person experiences happiness, and happiness and other states accompany, mind, matter, and sentient beings, etc., are not what we want to admit as the nature. Therefore, if you think that the reason is not established in establishing the refutation, and the refutation is established in establishing, then what is to be said about this is: If you do not think that it is possible to apprehend forms and so on without approaching the senses, then when approaching the senses, it should be thought that it is possible to apprehend. Even so, the actions of following and not following can only be its result. Even if they are its result, what else would remain that would accompany all states except for mere apprehension? If mere apprehension does not apprehend anything

Then, in what way is that the nature of being an object of focus? If it is an object of focus, then it must be that form and so on are the very objects of focus. Therefore, why say that if the senses are not closely connected, then form and so on are not considered objects of focus? If you accept that, then if the pervasive reason is not established, what need is there to seek the opposite? Thus, because inference prevents the permanent object of focus, it will become a negation of the self that has that nature. If it is necessary to impute the impermanent as the self, then there is no dispute. Because the permanent object of focus, such as form, is experienced. The permanent self of the nature of sentient beings is not tolerable even by direct perception. Because one does not focus on the existence of a self that is not of the nature of realization, it is intolerable. Whatever has become the characteristic of being focused on in something, if it is not focused on, then it is to be called non-existent there, just like horns on a horse's head. For the body and so on, the self that has become the characteristic of being focused on is also not focused on. Then, are those who say that the body and so on are the basis of the self not disagreeing? "In whose body is there no self?" Since that is what was said, then if that kind of thing is prevented, there is nothing to disagree with. That's right. We are not trying to prevent what is relied upon here, but to show it. In all cases, only what is completely devoid of focus should be prevented, because things to be prevented, such as vases, also exist. Merely being relied upon is not being possessed, because there are things that are not relied upon and things like that. If that is not the case, then because of the existence of a non-reliant self, the body and so on will not become possessed of a self. Here, the body and so on are not taken as the basis of what is to be prevented, but because they are the basis of the terms of non-focus and non-existence, there is no fault. Then, this non-focus is not temporarily without focus, because that itself is not reasonable to prove. Nor is it the nature of focusing on other things that are mixed with one consciousness, because there is nothing mixed between me and consciousness. Nor is it the nature of focusing on the objects of focus of different consciousnesses, because that is not necessary to prove its non-existence. If it is nearly necessary, then sounds etc.
